I love your clips. I worked in machine shops through High School and they always seem to have one or two pieces of old Machinery which I've never seen run. Great to see you actually using them.

My high school shop class had one very similar, it was WW2 surplus. I cut the gears for my power hacksaw with it. I still have and use the hacksaw in my shop. I'll be 66 this year. Cool machine.

And mad respect to its previous owner. Sweet old guy just wanted his mechanical baby to live on. That s so awesome too.

I got my first milling machine for free also. No actually it was my second one. I bought one off of Facebook that did not work as advertised at all and when I tried to source parts for it, I ended up talking to the owner of Smithy tool company, and he had recognized my budding passion for millwork and found a machine in the back of the shop and delivered it for free. The only thing I paid for was a three axis DRO which came installed. Even has a splash guard in the back and lubrication system pre-installed. Admittedly I can't hold incredible tolerances, but for down and dirty or prototyping, and of course learning fixturing and so many of the other disciplines, it has been a wonderful machine! I think tomorrow I'm going to order their shop some pizzas now that I'm feeling all reminiscent.

You are a smart enough young man to build out of steel a new outboard support 😊.AL B.

These old mills are so incredible!
I lament the metals shops and equipment that were sunk on large US Navy ships

I love this mill! I sure wish my grandpa was still here to see your channel, as he would be proud, astonished and very impressed at your collection at such a young age!! He was a machinist for 45 years, a very proud and successful one i must say!!!

Those older tools were unbelievable and compared to today's equipment, even more unbelievable. Their quality of work and size along with the knowledge needed to operate it properly, is a long gone science. Thank you.

I love milling machines like this…😪 I’ll probably never own one. But I had a great time in high school and again in technical school gaining a low level of mastery of these things. It’s fun to think about all the different things you could create to solve all sorts of problems with an end mill and a good set of dial calipers.

This is awesome stuff! Thanks, all the way from the middle of Manitoba!

I definitely recommend putting a support on the end of the shaft. That could end in a catastrophic climb and bend experience. Even if it’s the remotest possibility the lovely machines health isn’t worth the risk.
Love the older machines of all types. I will have a smaller workshop than yours but machines of the same vintage. Smile every time I see your shop.😎J

I've been working as a machinist for close to fifty years, I'm semi-retired with a shop of my own across the yard. I've got several machines from the teens and twenties, half a dozen from the forties, and a couple, a Bridgeport that's almost new, it's from the eighties. They cast good iron back in the past and it's good to keep using the old tools, it's a Legacy of America
