I’m still learning clarinet (I’m nine too!) I know a couple of songs like, jingle bells, hot cross buns, Mary had a little lamb/ Mary Lee went roll along and snow is falling down! ❤

Thru a series of events, I tuned Artie Shaw's piano a couple of times 15 or 20 years ago. He was retired and no longer played the clarinet because as he said: "I was no longer able to get what I wanted out the instrument anymore" He actually never intended to lead a big band and really wanted to be a writer. He was more interested in the life of the mind than the life of a performer. He spent his retirement years doing what he had always intended to do which was to write books.

Finally, a Rhapsody in Blue solo that's somewhat original doesn't sound completely square.

My life resume has me being a civil lawyer, schooner captain and local community theater personality … a very interesting life, now enjoying the Caribbean … BUT …. is there was one thing I would trade it for? Yes, a professional clarinetist’s life. If I had the knowledge and talent that I have now back then, I could be very happy learning and playing any quality music every work day. But no. I only now live a charmed life playing my first instrument, an R13 clarinet, the best I could afford. And it does provide comfort at 75. There is more fun and interesting tonal range in a Bb clarinet than most other other instruments that I know and I have owned many. Thanks for the day in you life and the Gershwin touch.
