This is just a quick intro / review / overview of my new toy, a cheap low-end Software-Defined Radio. These things can be found on eBay for about $10.

A lot of what you're seeing is just harmonics of lower freq high power stuff. Around 480 MHz you see the interference and USB2 carrier. The 460-462 MHz region was Motorola Mototrbo DMR basestations. You can decode the meta-data and unencrypted stuff with dsd+. 497 Mhz is a harmonic of a much lower frequency wideband FM.

There are piles of unlicensed data users on the 900mhz band, and also stuff like remote meter reading. I have built many 900mhz internet links over the years, but the band is generally to be avoided as it is very small and very noisy.
