Anicka Yi, winner of the 2016 Hugo Boss Prize, discusses her use of bacteria as a material to explore society’s obsession with cleanliness. She says, “As an artist it’s part of my job…to render visible the source of our discomfort, and our anxieties, and our intolerance.” Her solo exhibition at the Guggenheim, "The Hugo Boss Prize 2016: Anicka Yi, Life Is Cheap," is on view April 21 through July 5, 2017.
