I have been a fan of Richard Pryor since I was a young 20 year old.
It’s 2024 and I am a 72 year old guy and I am STILL a fan. RIP Richard.

I was 11 years old in 1983, we got HBO for the first time and I watched this. My parents weren't happy about it but was one of the greatest things I ever watched. Rest In Peace Richard.

The best comedy special of all time. There's never been better and I sincerely doubt there ever will be. Pryor is able to show us his vulnerabilities, and make mirth of them. He takes pain, and trauma and turns it into humour. That's very difficult to do. Pryor was more than a comedian and more than an actor. He was a raconteur. A storyteller. His anecdotes are compelling and wonderfully crafted. His depictions of characters are as emphatic and evocative as any great novelist.
Pryor goes far beyond gags and jokes. He offers insights into the human condition. He guides us through his suffering, but spins that suffering into happiness. He's peerless, in my view. Nobody comes close.
And this, is his finest work.

comic legend; i am so old, I saw this at the movie theatre in Nanuet, NY when it first came out, and, we had to back a second night, we laughed so hard we missed alot of of like the 1st time seeing "Airplane".

Fun fact:Joe Rogan was 15 years old and in the crowd with his parents for this and credits this as one of the things that got him into comedy.

I was not allowed to watch RP when I young bcoz of his swearing. He was so far ahead of his time his humour so sharp not sure the world will ever be as good as the 1980's again
