It’s insane how “The Giver” is given to sixth graders to read, but sophomores in high school can’t read the original version of “catcher in the rye”. And before I see those comments saying “the original version was too controversial and inappropriate for kids that age” my father was in 7th grade when he read that book and it didn’t change him as a person, or scar him, or leave him clinically insane.

I read a book in highschool about human trafficking and included a child r*pe scene. It's one of my favorite books and I'm very glad I read it. It gave me a perspective about others lives and struggles. It was based on real human trafficking survivor stories and the books awareness of this issue helps to prevent young girls from becoming sex slaves.

The solution for this is the same as it is for working in a desk job.
Just send in an approval request.
For every single book.
In every single classroom.
Every single year.

It's the only way to guarantee that this law won't be used arbitrarily to target specific teachers that are protected from termination without cause.
