In 1688, tensions in England reached a boiling point. King James II, a Catholic, angered his subjects with pro-Catholic policies and fears of a Catholic dynasty intensified when his son was born. English Protestants and political leaders were alarmed. They invited Prince William of Orange, a Protestant and the husband of James’s daughter Mary, to intervene. William saw a chance to protect Protestantism and strengthen his power in Europe, setting plans in motion for what became known as the 'Glorious Revolution
