"Well, maybe I'M a Cylon & I've never seen you at one of our meetings."
"Are you SURE you're a priest?"
Brother John Cavil at his snarky best. Priceless!

God, I absolutely loved the revalation of “brother Cavil“ being a Cylon. It absolutely fits into his twisted, nihilistic narrative.

This scene gets better the more you watch the show because 1) you find out that cavil and tyrol are both cylons and 2) that Cavil knew the chief was a cylon the whole time and is messing with him.

The brilliant part of this?

Cavil was the only one at this point who knew that Tyrol was, in fact, a Cylon.

"oh, well maybe because I'm a Cylon and I've never seen you at any of the meetings."
I mean, he isn't exactly wrong, is he? And the ironic part is he was telling the truth when he said that

In every R.D. Moore creation, the Chief must suffer

You know what is great about this scene is that it shows that writing as you go along isn't the worst thing in the world for a TV show, at this point the concept of the final five was not fleshed out yet, it wasn't decided that Tyrol actually was a cylon, neither was Cavil's at the time this was just a nice introduction scene for Cavil.... but what is great is that despite the later changes this scene still works, in a sense it almost works better because now you can see it as Cavil trying to punish and torture his creator while at the same time trying to "teach him a lesson" about how cylons are better than humans.... especially when you consider the line " you might [do something terrible] but not because you are a cylon, but because you are a human being and human beings do terrible things all the time" within the context of the completed series you can see that as Cavil trying to convince Tyroll of the superiority of cylons over humans and that humans are the truly evil ones not the best part is that when this scene was filmed that was not the intention, but it still works that way after Tyroll was chosen to be one of the final five, and the final five were chosen to be the creators of the other cylons, and cavil's backstory as trying to punish the final five for making the cylons human, it all still So like I stated earlier, just because the show's writers make some things up as they go along does not make them bad writers, if anything the fact that this scene works both in its original intention and in its reimagined intention shows how good they actually were

This scene is a feast of irony after watching the show.

Interesting slips on Cavil's part. "Trying to get you right with yourself and your gods" and the exclamation "For God sake!".

This scene and the one where Cavil boxes D'Anna are 2 of my favourites in the show "That's the problem right there, the messianic conviction that you're on a mission to enlighten us. Look at the damage it's caused.".

I wish you folks would compile all of Cavil and Tyrol's scenes from this episode. So perfect and funny and different for a priest. Ron Moore is the greatest writer.

The full extent of Cavill could not be known at this point. Like others have said, seeing this again after watching the series through shows this whole episode in such a different light.

“Your gods” implies Cavil was monotheistic and didn’t believe in the gods like humans. A Cylon trait...

I want to hit my head really hard, lose all my memory of watching this show and watch this scene again!

I get why people want to avoid spoilers, since an un-spoiled blind experience of a piece of media is something that can never be gotten back, once the seal is broken. However, "spoilers", or just foreknowledge of events, can also add entire new layers to enjoying a work. This scene is a prime example. It's good on first viewing, but coming back to it, it is absolutely astounding, gripping, fascinating, and hilarious even.

The no. 1 model is amazing in every scene.

But his Lewis Black delivery of the "Cylon meetings..." line is so underrated.
