Being in a hurricane is a strange thing to experience. The constant wind and rain. Earplugs come in handy so you can fall asleep without being woken by the sound. Never been in the eye of a storm though.

Ive lived in south Florida and I forget which one it was but the eye went over us back when Irene, Frances and Charlie came through. The eye is truly the calm after the first storm and the calm before the 2nd part of the storm
