Welcome back to LTS Academy. In the previous videos, we have shown you how to set up IP cameras with a Network Video Recorder. In this episode, we are going to show you how to connect the IP camera to an NVR using external PoE switch.

Network Setting: 0:30
Power on the PoE Switch: 0:48
Connect the IP Camera to the PoE Switch: 0:55
Program the IP Camera: 1:11

In this video, we also showed you how to deal with the password issue when the camera activation password is different from the NVR and NVR channel. 2:30

Please check out this video and we'd love to hear any feedback from you!

So The network port on NVR gets connected into external PoE Switch, then the IP camera goes direct into external PoE switch?

Thanks. I forgot about the PoE cable was to be connected from the LAN port of the NVR and in one of those LAN ports (yellow) at the back of the Wi-Fi modem. System works great. But I haven't configured the mobile yet. Still trying.

Can I use simple Ethernet 24 port switch ( no POE) with my 1080p ip camera, 16 channel NVR, along with a normal power supply used in Analog DVR systems.

Hello. What is the purpose of using the PoE Switch? Can we design with just IP Camera and NVR? Isn't the function of the PoE switch available on the NVR as well

So if I have a shed off a bit from the house and don’t want to run over 100’ of Ethernet from shed to house, what is an option to get it to talk to the NVR? if I have a WAP out in the shed and use that to power the Camera since the camera is POE. Will it wirelessly send the video feed back to the NVR?

just checking, is it ok to run the nvr into the switch also and then run the switch into the router?

Can we power any IP camera using a PoE switch? (the ones that are having ethernet port for data transfer)
I want to avoid having 2 cables for each camera. I want the data transfer and power to run on the ethernet cable.

I don't see that you connected it to the NVR, all I see was you connected it to the switch.

This video assumes that everyone understands the lingo and instructions.

I believe The Internet should be going into the NVR only, NOT the switch. the switch should be its own separate network with a different subnet for cameras only. Using 2 NIC's is a more secure way to keep your cameras off the internet.

Not the greatest video. They really show one thing, and not that well. So let's try this: a network consisting of more than just a wifi router can take advantage of the PoE external switch one way, as can just a wifi router network, with a slight variance. Let's look at these two ways. WiFi router only installation: take a Cat5/6 cable and plug into the back of your security camera system's NVR following instructions for using an external PoE switch. Run the cable to a new location for placing the PoE external switch (the item you are trying to now install) which is now acting as a hub. Plug your security PoE capable cameras into the correct PoE external switch ports. So now you have run one long cat 5 or 6 cable from the PoE external switch (the item you are trying to install) going back to the original NVR/DVR of the system, and shorter cat 5 or 6 cables from that PoE external switch to the cameras using the ports on the external switch instead of the original NVR/DVR which could be a long distance away from this hub. So those ports are just like using the ports on the original NVR/DVR that came with your camera system. The switch will direct the traffic.

Or if you have a full network with a wifi router and network drops throughout the house, the PoE switch only needs to be on the same network. In other words, if your NVR/DVR camera component is on one side of the house, in a master bedroom closet and is connected to the router. And you have a drop on the other side of the house in a spare bedroom. You can use the Cat 5/6 to plug into the wall brick (your network drop in the spare bedroom) and then use the PoE external switch and run Cat5/6 through the wall to the attic and then connect cameras to the PoE external switch from there. You already have run a Cat5/6 to that bedroom. So now instead of running a Cat5/6 from the NVR/DVR of the original system you purchased for each camera you are installing, which would be a lot of lengthy cables, you can just plug the PoE external switch into a drop (brick) on the other side of the house, and run smaller cable lengths to the cameras from there. The only Cat 5/6 cable running to the router, is the one on your existing network which is a Cat 5 or 6 cable to that spare bedroom from the which plugs into a hub, switch, or router port in the master closet (in our example). You didn't run any new long cable runs to the other side of the house, but only shorter cable runs to each camera that you plugged into the PoE external switch ports. Like your main router, there are ports dedicated to for use that allow a lot of items to be plugged into a switch, hub, or router, and there is always one or two dedicated ports that are external for use with the main Cat 5/6 line from the ISP or from another switch or hub. So if a switch says it is 5 ports, one will be used for connecting to the network while the rest will be used to connect other things to that network. Got it?

On the WiFi router only system with no network drops, you can run just one Cat 5/6 cable to the other side of the house, and then use the corresponding ports to hook your cameras into, instead of running all the Cat 5/6 cables to each camera which uses a lot of lengthy cables. A switch is designed to handle the traffic in packets so that all the data will flow to the router and thus, the NVR/DVR or app or whatever program is calling for said data.
