He's saying Bassman not basement. Its an amp made by Fender. And he says TRACKS, not traps.... and also "Mesa", as in Mesa Boogie amplifiers.

As a lifelong performing musician and some-time small studio engineer and live sound reinforcement engineer, I have to say that recording/mixing/producing bands is a deep rush like no other. You are *playing* the entire band as your “instrument”. It’s a pretty thankless job, which is okay - there’s enough ego in professional music - and rarely do we get the credit when a recording or live gig sounds amazing. But I totally love it. 🫡✌🏼

In an alternative universe, there's a Butch Vig In Utero and a Steve Albini Nevermind. Would love to hear them both.

In Utero is my favourite but Nevermind is eternal. Same with another Vig production Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. People will be discovering those albums for decades.

Really underscores how the front man is just that... in any artistic project you appreciate, there are probably dozens of talented ppl making it what it is.

... though let's be real, noone would've ever noticed without a maniac like Kurt to focus on.

I'm so tired of the Butch disrespect, even if Nevermind didn't turn out exactly like Kurt wanted. Butch produced a phenomenal album, he was a great engineer who understood who why and how to work with Nirvana personalities. His personality, musicality, engineering chops, and patience allowed him to make THE ROCK RECORD of the 1990s.

Man. I would have loved engineering tracks like that!

So that’s how the song got that overdrive sound to it; loads of overdubbed guitars, much like Cherub Rock from the Pumpkins
