How It's Made: Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)

Показать описание
In this episode of WoodSolutions InFocus Laurence visits a factory which produces cross laminated timber, or CLT. CLT is an engineered timber product that is quickly growing in popularity in the construction industry. With two-way action and high tolerance of shear forces, CLT panels can generally be used instead of concrete, saving huge amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. Here, Laurence sees how CLT is produced and learns more about the quality checks involved in the manufacturing process.

Thanks for watching our video! Did you get something out of it? Is there another topic about wood, wood products, or designing and building with wood that you would like us to explore? Let us know in the comments and we'll see what we can do.

What a great explanation about how CLT is made!

Nice Video, aboviously the bottle neck for the production capacity will be the pressing in this plant. The cold pressing consumes 25-30 minutes, and only can press several boards each time, they may need more press machines.

Thanks for this video. Can you give any indication on cost for factory applied AV barrier vs a membrane field applied? A percentage? I’m sure the labor costs alone a a good reason to factory apply.

Hello, can bamboo alone can be made as a feed stock or a maximum content in the feed stocks?. What's the criteria for the basic feedstock combination in terms of strength and other parameters?

Thank you for this informative video. I learnt a thing or two about CLT now :)

Thank you for the excellent explanation! Why is softwood more commonly used in CLT panels than hardwood?

great.I hope it will be everywhere in the world

So do CLT houses still need interior insulation or not? And is Drywall sheet rock required for interior for CLT HOUSES? I'm asking because i may consider building a house in Tasmania with CLT!

I saw many buildings all over the world, in a structural analysis program's website, being made in CLT and I was actually curious how it is any different from the ones used in the past.

Great video, thanks. It’s the AVB applied at the factory comparable in cost to field applied?

Do you use any type of glue release to protect your equipment from the glue?

Friends, good afternoon! Have you ever thought to make a CLT in 2 layers, 20mm thick and 2.5×1.25 meters in size.? (Glue lamellas with a thickness of 10mm.) So that 1 person could lift them. (As OSB).

Not a lot of info on how the smaller pieces of wood are prepped and glued together. I imagine that’s the most important part.

I'm curious about what kind of glue is used at this factory.

The use of adhesives and plastic sheeting ensure there’s still lots of oil involved in the manufacture of CLT 🙃

Awesome. But it's kind of ironic that CLT is made in a completely pre-engineered steel building!
