Living in a reactionary culture where everyone reacts to everything ASAP definitely is responsible for an inaccurate film review. I love watching films and sitting there for a few days before giving my review on anything to know how I truly felt. I'd also say FOMO is responsible, too because people don't want to be left out of the conversation over a new film.

It's not about ego. Turns around to describe ego to a T.

People need to start saying movies are terrible. Don’t matter what or who…seriously

Being honest as a movie reviewer is the most important thing.

I totally disagree with the idea or concept that initial reactions are a form or product of social media FOMO. When I was a teen in the 90s and I saw a good or terrible movie my first thought was to tell other ppl about it, ask if they had seen it or been aware, there was no social media back then it was a normal reaction to wanting to be social with the other ppl in ur circle I think the idea that this is social conditioning because of our mobile phones is completely false.

Why is he afraid to lose access? I thought a film critics job was to critic films, not gain entry to award shows and first screenings. People don't care if you saw it first. Maybe I'm wrong but it sounded like he's more freelance marketing for the studios. No wonder the rotten tomatoes review scores are so different between audience and critics.

This guy just laid out all of human flaws for everyone to see. He tried to project them onto everyone else, but it's really only a minority of people who react and behave the same way as him. Some more time spent on self awareness and reflections would be very beneficial for this guy.

This is in every community, not just film. No one ever really listens to the arguments made, they just look for the overall opinion, people want their biases to be confirmed, not so much to be challenged. Twitter is the best possible example of this, say something negative about media especially those with critical immunity and it gets viral, people will try to scare you by getting "ratioed" and quote tweeting you and replying to you with lots of knee jerk responses and insults. It's like talking to a bunch of kids who think they are apart some cool mafia organization, it's rather pathetic because at least the mob possibly know where I am, know what I look like and have geniune power, these children and man children behind computers don't have such power, yet for some reason people get punked by these guys.

That and no one ever pays attention when you explain yourself, you can probably have some of the most sound arguments ever, but no one will read them because they have short attention spans, these people wouldn't surivive in a critical thinking classroom.

Tbh, I struggle with forming my opinion on a daily basis. Did I love it or hate it? It's kind of up to you, really

Why can't people just understand... *nothing* is for everyone? If they fancy the movies and shows they watch as so perfect and so sacred that they separate those who should even be _watching_ shows or movies from everyone else...There is a problem.

Well said. People become to contrived in their own views, they forget that as human beings we all have our own personal opinions on things. I believe it's important to be view with reviews. I understand the concern by the movie producers as this can negatively affect their income. But in all honesty, how are film maker going to better their art if they aren't willing to listen to honesty reviews? If we become too distant within our bubbles, there becomes a disconnect with audience. We see this so much these days, hense why the fans are more then often outspoken.. this can be in a negative light, if the movie was bad. But ghis can also be raving positivity if the movie was perfect.

Harry Knowles is the person who is responsible for today's scatterbrained film critics and journalists who lack savviness and smarts in tackling a proper film review as they tend to make themselves like a film that they knowingly hate don't don't want to be seen as a hater, instead of wiser people such as Roger Ebert, Gene Siskel, John Stanley, and Chas. Balun who just simply told it the way it was when it came to their reviews that either loved or hated a film(and didn't care if anyone agreed or disagreed with their honest reviews).

Disagree greatly.

Everyone can form opinions on films that they have watched on first viewing and still have the same opinion of the film years later.

People all have their own standards and criteria so people rate films differently.

This man is not the hero we asked for, but the hero we need. Most film reviewers are so fake these days the general audience has lost faith in reviewers. Then we have places like 💩 Rotten Tomatoes 💩 who delete thousands of negative reviews to boost review score.

Yes, you're dealing with critics that are too afraid to talk to your face, or are many thousands of miles away and can't ever make it to talk to your face... but either way, same thing, right?

I miss the days where you had to wait a week for the next tv episode, I’m tired of the “here’s what you missed” or the instant reviews the next morning from shows that got released in one night

It is indeed hard to be subjective and honest. I have another channel where I review restaurants in my city, for fun. 6 years of doing this and I had one resto kick me out for no real reason. They got the heebie jeebies

When is comes to a movie review, I _want_ the knee-jerk reaction. I want to know one thing and one thing only: will I walk out of the theater happy, angry, or just meh? Cuz if I have to really _think_ about a movie--like, after I've left the theater--just to enjoy it, that's a bad movie. A good movie will keep my attention and enjoyment _in the moment._

And, frankly, I don't understand other peoples' opinions on movies, anyway. I don't see how _anybody_ could like "Rogue One" or "The Fifth Element"; they're the most shallow, uninteresting, style-over-substance movies I've ever seen...and boy-howdy, do I get hate when I say that. But for me, the strength of a movie is in the characters; there are movies _I shouldn't like_ because they're in genres I don't care for or set during a time period that doesn't interest me...but I keep watching them because I love the characters. And neither R1 nor 5thE made me care. It was like watching somebody else play a video game.
But trying saying that to people. I dare you.
