I view the 2009 VMAs as a sort of "passing of the torch" moment in pop music. Despite Kanye overshadowing everything else, I want to point out how special of a moment Lady Gaga's Paparazzi performance was. It was not only the birth of Gaga's superstardom, I personally thought it was a gift from the King Of Pop himself, who had sadly passed away only months prior. Gaga was supposed to open up for MJ on his ill-fated This Is It tour. It was as if Gaga's performance was a gift he sent from Heaven.
