Even world’s largest #container mother ships and #supertankers can be handled on this port easily. The port would be only 12 nautical miles away from the #international ship channel, the Suez-Malacca key #shipping lane!
Vizhinjam, once built, can handle world’s largest #ships as efficiently as Rotterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong ports.
With Vizhinjam port in operation, #India could save $ 100 million annually in terms of foreign exchange!
This will also serve as highly cost effective and time efficient for #importers and #exporters of India.

This port was envisioned in 1920 and this should have been the first port we should have built. Our planning and regional favoritism is so worse that it took us this long to build the most strategic port that we all needed. All these while we have lost crores of tax money to Colombo, Singapore and Dubai.

Yes, this port should have been developed atleast 40-50 years ago. The blame squarely rests with the now defunct planning commission, congress govt at the centre and repeated communist / congress govts in the state.
