A fast Nikon 35mm has been on the Z-Mount roadmap for a long time and we finally got our hands on it! Chris Niccolls has never been a fan of 35mm lenses, but can the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 win him over?

Although I don't love the generally larger size of modern lenses, there's no denying optical quality has taken a big step forward in the last 10 years. OEM and Third Party have been knocking it out the park! The idea that an f/1.2 can look that good wide open is astonishing to me.

@3:37 AF performance is insane! Almost no focus breathing and quick focus pick-up. Nikon has their 1.2 fast primes trinity locked-in. Now, if they can make a fast 24mm (1.4 most probably, but 1.2 would be a dream), that would be my ideal wide lens.

Nikon brings the 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm 1.2 to the market. Nice. A bit big, heavy, but we know this means almost no breathing and stellar optics.

I love that now in this mirrorless era each of the big 3 have had their chance to create some new lens that the others have not had. This is a really great step for Nikon and its (to me) the first signs of life that they are headed in the right direction. I hope the other 2 can come up with lenses that compete with this because I’d love to have one on RF. Absolutely an instant buy for me especially if it has good video performance as well. The 35/85 1.2 prime combo on two bodies will be so killer for events.
