edit: omg calm down everyone first yes im indian second i mean tear it up apart with both hands personally ive never seen anyone eat it like that. third eat how ever you want but ik many indians and people who eat roti or as i call it chapathi would be delighted to see you eat it the way its meant to carfully tearing it with one hand. its respecting the culture and its a nice gesture to do, like eating with chopsticks.

Yes, this is the proper etiquette, but everyone reading this... Feel free to eat the way you want, we just do it this way for 2 reasons:
1. it is way more efficient and more controllable to eat with your hand
2. less pesky utensils to wash
Bonus : It tastes better when you eat with you hands.
