I Almost Ruined My Ironman Chances Because of This

I'm going from no experience to completing an Ironman and recently decided to listen to my body.

It's terrible timing and I didn't anticipate, nor want to make this video, but over the last week or so I have been dealing with some soreness in my knee. I normally run through the pain but being only a few weeks out from my Ironman, after training nearly every day for the last 8 months, I figured the smartest thing to do was to listen to my body and give some rest.

This is a little training update after giving myself some rest and seeing if I'm able to get back to it after my injury.

I’ve also dealt with pretty bad outside of the knee pain that was most noticeable when going down stairs and was caused by overuse running and cycling. It is almost certainly ITBS. Know you’re a week out from your race and sounds like you might be past the worst of the injury, but just thought I’d note the #1 thing that helped me overcome the injury (other than rest from running and loosening up the glutes with a massage gun or lacrosse ball) was banded side lying clamshells. Your mileage may vary of course, but it took several appointments with a PT and a lot of research to find the solution for me! Best of luck in your race dude!

Better safe than sorry! Hope the taper gives it plenty of rest, to have you as close to 100% come race day.
