With the loudness of the newer meter I'd almost call this a feature :-)

The EEVBlog BM786 Multimeter -- The only multimeter in the world featuring magnet detection!

I have a mini test audio amplifier that has built in speakers. I wanted a little more volume from the speakers and I found out that I could squeeze out a little more oomph by gluing rare earth magnets to the back of the speakers. Basically augmenting the existing speaker magnet.

Can confirm this for the BM 257s, the spot is on the Top Right.
Seems like Joe Smith has another Thing to check on his Tests ;)
Edit: Peaktech 3345 (Build Date 03/2007) is also affectet, so this is no new Effect

Better start a "Nitpickers Guide to EEVBLOG Meters" forum.

Wasn't there a Gossen meter that can get into all sorts of weird states if the supplied magnetic hanger is swiped over it a certain way?
NiHaoMike
was anyone expecting the meter to unlock itself?
eliotmansfield
Also happen with my 257s :D
About the same location as your smaller one too (top right side-ish)

Both 121GW and BM235 have this "volume control feature".

A piezo in a resonance chamber will be almost as loud, immune to magnets.
borayurt
oh damn I am going to go stick magnets on all my buzzers to attenuate them lol
tablatronix
It can't "wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah" as much… 😂

Magnetic hanger for the BM235? Interesting. I didn't know such a thing exists.
kevincozens
The shield on the back side of the meter suppose to protect from magnetic field as well..obviously it does not...something to test and improve potentially for Brymen in the orherwise a good meter?

Might have to get the magnet clip for my BM235. The BM786 looks sexy af

How can I get my hands on a magnet for my BM235? Mine didn't come with that, but I've had multiple times where that would have came in really handy.
tlukasiewicz
It was my meter the BMH-02 affected the buzzer on, i had it on the meter for a day & it halved the beeper volume after removing it, luckily it appears to have returned to full volume after leaving it off a couple of days. The BMH-02 is incredibly strong compared to the BMH-01 theres really no comparison between the two
neiliewheeliebin
I wonder if this is why my BM235's buzzer is super quiet . Will have to see if there is a small magnet stuck near the casing.

Where can I buy the test leads that are supplied with the 121GW? If possible in Germany. Then the shipping will not take that long
