I never thought I’d get hematocrit advice from Ben Affleck

Phlebotomies will lower ceruloplasmin causing unbound copper to rise in the blood while lowering total copper in the serum. This raises the NCC percentage (non ceruloplasmin bound copper) which is associated with neurological issues if that percentage rises. A Low T clinic had me giving so often that my ceruloplasmin fell low enough for my docs to think I had Wilsons Disease until further testing revealed I didn't. To make matters worse, I am now on HCG monotherapy with mediocre T levels and my RBC is still elevated which of course they want to blame on the HCG. Just one more reason to find a Doctor on TRT himself or one that is up to date on modern TRT. Also, as Gil mentioned, drinking water before the test will lower those numbers. Its interesting to note that the World Health Organization doesn't even consider it erythrocytosis until levels go above 18.5 Hgb.

It's funny I watch this video a year ago when I first started trt and didn't really get all the angles. Watching it again and get every single angle he's right. Danny is right about that. Someone who has 110 over 70 blood pressure with an 18 hemoglobin and low platelets is no real risk. Someone at 150 over 95 with elevated platelets and the same hemoglobin needs to donate and potentially get on blood pressure meds. There's like all these variables and so many guys I chat with just dump blood because they see a number

also remember as long as your platelets are normal a little high h and h isnt that bad just means more oxygen to muscles and organs and allows you to lift and little more reps in the gym, this is why high endurance trainers do what called blood doping, adding higher h and h re injecting blood to their systems, always try other ways first before the blood donating remember the more you give blood the more the body recovers and adapts to it replaces it fast and faster. and it will become routine, you dont want that

thank god for someone other than me finally someone gets it, great job brother, i keep explaining to people mine h and h and border high red cells 5.8 18.1 ans 52.0 another mistake people make i fast for 12 hours before labs and i didnt drink enough water, in that 12 hours you will get a false positive high h and h, if you drink 32 oz one hour before test i promise it will effect your levels anybody on trt like myself, i tell lower your test shots to 100mg from 200 mg and do twice a week 1/2 cc instead of 1cc, once a week also watch what your eating with high iron, but if you drink like i do 1 gallon and a half to 2 gallons a day your h and h should be fine the body has a way of adjusting and adapting, giving blood is a nice thing to do for the right reasons but in this case it should be only needed if underlining issues or blood pressure issues are evident . great job danny and g

Thank you guys. This was great and I'm glad I was able to find this. I started trt about 2 years ago and I'm always being told to donate. It doesn't seem like that's a bad thing or something I shouldn't do but I'm glad to get an in-depth explanation and other things I should do. I don't know why the simple things are always overlooked. I was definitely dehydrated when I got my blood drawn. I'll be more responsible about hydration. Need that 32 ounce bottle to carry around.

Next to learn about what else I should be doing while on statins.

My hematocrit was 53.7, I not really concerned about it, my blood pressure was 121 over 71 the day my blood was taken, and I feel great. I was also injecting my trt every other day that week. Since then I've started injecting every 4 days. And staying more hydrated. I'll be fine, people worry too much. Take a baby aspirin or fish oil while you're at it.

My blood pressure is 131/70 my last blood work said RBC 6.36, hemoglobin 18.0 and hematocrit 53.3 but my platelets count was 259. I feel good period. I do take fish oil 5 times a day maybe that over kill lol

Mine was 43 before I started TRT and 56 after 4 months. Doc freaked out and stopped my TRT. Said I needed to get my heart and lungs checked???

53 years old and been on trt for 15+ years. Bloodwork about 10 years ago showed iron high out if range. Read up on it and saw that high iron was not a good thing for a man and could increase oxidation and suppress testosterone production of all things. After I donated a couple of times it was st a more normal level so I've donated several times a year for last several years. Should probably get a full iron panel to see where I am now.
On another note, should I be concerned with high hct on trt if I have sleep apnea and high blood pressure? Aso, I start getting very red in the face ( as well as rosacea) when I don't donate for a while. Been wanting to stop donating but would like more assurance that Id be doing the right thing for myself. Guess I should have posted this in the FB group.

This is the best overview of the entire hematocrit debate. Treat the patient in totality not just one number

If someone crashes their ferritin, would getting an iron infusion cause hemoglobin to continue to elevate? How do you discern between fatigue from low ferritin vs high hemoglobin?

the difference is guys on bodybuilding forums are running cycles and unlike trt there is even less good information about what to do to manage risks on high amounts of testosterone + other androgens. For someone running a cycle it's probably a reasonable risk reduction to donate blood unlike someone on a true therapeutic dose of testosterone

My trt clinic had me donate twice in a short period and it made me anemic. Worst feeling in the world. Couldn’t breathe and felt like I was dying.

I have been on TRT for awhile . My Hemoglobin was at 55 a few months ago . I gave blood and it dropped to 49, I gave blood again today at it should drop to around 45 . Its gonna take me several months to get it back into a good range

Check your copper levels, if they go on the low end you’ll get iron overload. Copper regulates your iron.

I just started my TRT treatment, about a month in. I've always had high RBC and Hemoglobin, my Hematocrit has always been around 50 to 51 normally. Is this something I should be concerned with going forward on TRT?

I have high hematocrit, but inexplicably low iron. My doctor has been giving me iron injections, but this raises my hematocrit. I can’t get a phlebotomy, because it will lower my iron. Help.
