The Worst Holiday Ever - Nightmare Experiences In Torquay

I thought it would be a fun and interesting experiment to go on Tripadvisor, read the advice and recommendations on the best places to eat and stay while visiting the beautiful coastal town of Torquay, and then completely ignore all of that well-intentioned advice. Instead, I decided to take a completely different route and seek out the worst of the worst. This meant I would spend a full 24 hours at the worst rated restaurants and the worst hotel on the stunning English Riviera, which is known for its scenic beauty and vibrant tourist attractions. Throughout this adventure, I was thoroughly disgusted by what I experienced at these establishments, but strangely enough, I was not disappointed. It turned out to be an eye-opening experience that was filled with unexpected moments and entertainment. Join me as I share the details of this unique journey, where I challenge the conventional wisdom of travel recommendations and discover the bizarre and unusual side of Torquay.

Torquay is a town of contrasts. Some very nice and expensive areas, some absolute dumps. It had a load of chavs dumped on it from other parts of the country and unfortunately that made it a rough town. Same thing happened to many towns in the south west.

Torquay is a lovely place. Its easy to find faults. Your 3 meals were at a leisure centre a spoons and a pizza takeaway. Poor choices but you knew that. The town center is like most towns, empty shops and charity, vape, betting shops filling the void. Your hotel looked like it was a asylum place when i passed last june. Its a dump. Id rather have slept in the car. Go back and do positive reviews. 👍

If it's cheap, you won't be getting a 4**** hotel. We wouldn't even book a crap hotel; if we can't afford 4**** we would just stay home.

I went to Torquay on a five day coach tour, it was the Best Holiday I've Ever had ❤❤ Along with my daughter who was 14 years old, and my parents, it was awful being on a coach trip that took eight hours to get there 😊 I live in a Norfolk town in England 🌹 This Hotel was called "Ashlly Court Hotel" It was a Very Happy five day's... I loved the rooms we stayed in..the food was plenty ❤and lots of it was cooked so beautiful and tasty, the Staff were very affectionate and Nothing was to much to ask for... I would love to live there but alas I couldn't afford to... when I'm having a bad day I think of All the fun we had .. I take a look on there web page Just to see if it's the same, they were doing a rey fur at the time, I can't believe the Horrible comments they have left 😤😡 you genuinely get what you paid for...if you were expecting high end for the price, then you shouldn't show stupid comments and photos etc...I love this hotel and enjoyed every second of it...❤❤❤😢 Hopefully I will get there again soon I hope 🤞🤞🙏🙏✊✊😸😸✌️💖💖💂🇬🇧🌹🍒

Like so many of our towns in Britain and sea-side resorts, Torquay is a shadow of the place it once was. I lived in the area for a couple of years not that long ago, and frequented all three of the resort towns in Torbay. I was shocked at the demise of Torquay. It was full of drug addicts rolling about on the grass areas, homeless people sleeping in the doorways of what were once nice shops. The main shopping area, the high street was very disappointing. I stayed in Torquay many years ago for a holiday, and I did not recognise the place. The sea views etc are as lovely as ever, but living in Torbay was not that great frankly. Nice walks, but a general air of decay. Even quaint little Brixham was not so nice as it was 30+ years ago. It's got its yobs just like anywhere else. Torquay of the three Torbay resorts USED to be perceived as the 'posh' one. It's certainly not posh anymore.

This video reminds me of the Faulty Towers episode with the complaining customer. "Well may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain..." You get what you pay for. This wasn't a review, just confirmation that wherever you go you will find good, bad and indifferent.

I live in Torquay there are some posh parts but on the whole needs massive regeneration. We do have issues with homeless begging - the town’s very run down. We are moving to Market Harborough in Leicestershire.

The hotel room was pretty bad, not very clean but you usually get what you pay for. And the food, I'd eat somewhere else.

We had our Honey moon in Torquay 1981. It was a beautiful vibrant clean place . Loved .

My ex had her honey moon with her second husband there in 1994

It's a very budget hotel chain.
We had the misfortune to stay one night in London with the same Co because we were on a tight budget.
There are plenty of fantastic places to stay across Torbay & many great places to eat for a range of budgets.
The "rough" shopping centre has been recently purchased by the council & will no doubt be fully refurbished when they have finished the multi million pound seafront road development around the corner.
IWeve been Torbay residents for 8 years
Our tourist season starts building from March & extends until Christmas.
Four brand new hotels opened across Torbay inc Hilton, Ibis, & Premier since the pandemic & more investment to come.
We love living here.
Sorry you've sought such a negative experience.

Absolute crap video, tells you nothing about Torquay. There is good and bad everywhere. We regularly have coffee at The Grand Hotel, it is very dated but has two excellent young girls in the bar. They always serve us and it is their super service and personality that keeps us also have a Scottish woman, who walks off, if a customer approaches, we avoid her like the plague. Just bloody lazy!
❤😊

Went to Torquay 40 years ago and it was a bit of a dive then. 'I think I'd get out of the shower dirtier than when I got in'. LOL Rich. I wouldn't even want to get in that bed. Did you check for bedbugs? That place probably houses homeless people. Torquay looks like quite a sad place and makes Newquay look like St. Tropez. Visiting the worst review places seems like an interesting idea, since everyone else seem to go to the top places. Tracey x

In this country at present there is an extremely bad attitude of wanting things for nothing!

Life isnt a series of free handouts!
