Thanks Justin. I have been struggling with what Ben Hogan wrote in his 5 Lessons book about having the main pressure (for the right or trail hand) being the middle two fingers. I think I over-reacted to this advice thinking I should not be using the forefinger at all. But I have known something was uncontrolled, even feeling "loose", and unstable, including at the top of the backswing. And my impact seemed to lack any "dominance" on the ball. Recently though, I have re-thought what he said, he didn't say "no pressure". In fact he talks about liking to feel he has the large knuckle of the forefinger pressing left, with I think the grip actually being in the forefinger pad. After watching your video and letting my trigger finger come back into the game (but not dominate) I think it has been better. And, like you said, I now feel like I have more control of bringing the toe of the club around at impact, and also more speed with that forearm flick. Feel like I'm getting some of the whip back. Thank you. :)

This is all very on point and correct. The last three fingers of each hand are the pulling or squeezing fingers, used in say a tug of war contest, and in golf, they want to pull forward or down more than anything, which is not good for creating a circular motion. The index finger and thumb are the speed and control fingers, respectively. Skipping a rock, throwing a baseball or football, etc, one uses the index finger for speed, and as a result, it is the last finger to leave the ball. The thumb has the widest range of motion so it is the control finger, allowing the ability alongside the index finger, to control a stick, bat, club etc. Example, turn your club upside down and hold it with your dominant hand at the end of the shaft, pretend there is a white board in front of you and that you have a black marker on the end of the grip, and then try to write your name in the air. As a result of this task, your index finger and thumb will be very snug against the shaft in order to control the grip end to write your name. THIS PRESSURE LEVEL, is the pressure you want in these two principal fingers during a golf shot. See Ernest Jones' "The Golf Swing Illustrated" for detail and rationale.

It is extremely important that you do a baton twirl of the club at the top of your downswing applying pressure with you trail pinky finger along with your trail middle two finger and this will then immediately translate down to your trigger finger at impact to you ball.

Hope this helps as I have yet to hear any golf instructor say or teach the specifics of the downswing. Cheers 😃⛳️👍🥂

Is this drill used to promote a draw?? Or just overall better control of the golf ball and swing??
