Blue Grotto, Capri, Italy | Grotta Azzurra, Italia

Here's our experience visiting the Blue Grotto in Capri, Italy (Gotta Azzurra, Italia) in May 2019.

We arrived by sea via a private boat tour (using Gianni's Boat Tours) that started in Marina Grande harbor and went around the whole of Capri island, but let us stop by the famous Blue Cave / Blaue Grotte Bleue too. It is possible to visit from land too.

Grotta Azzurra is one of the most famous tourist attractions on Capri, often listed on "Top Things to do in Capri" and "Most recommended places to visit in Capri and in the Amalfi Coast area" lists.

My father was a British airman, stationed in Italy at the end of WWII. He swam in the Blue Grotto in 1945, when there were no tourists. He told me how magical it was but I had forgotten the story until now. I just looked up this video and had a bit of a cry.

emperor tiberius in person sits in the tiny ticket booth and sells you tickets for the blue grotto for 14 bucks each. he's become a little shaky meanwhile but still a great emperor.

Hilarious! They jack you for the cost of the tour ride and then make you pay to enter the Grotto 😂 Tourists are just unbelievable> I'm surprised they didn't charge you at the end for the boat fuel 😂 It is beautiful though. Now I won't have to visit 😂
