How to drain your septic tank DIY. All you need is a garden hose. Thank you for watching.

FYI: The leak started after a so called “septic professional” did some work on the concrete septic tanks. We have been trying to figure out where the leak is coming from as a DIY before we start using the tanks. We first started by replacing the septic risers (see our previous video). There was no grey water in our tanks, just rain water and dirt/mud.

My system is an aerobic sewerage treatment system with sprinklers for the effluent. When I clean my tanks out I use a waste water pump and suck out everything from the bottom of my holding tank and the clarifier tank. It comes out looking like thick, used, 90 weight gear oil as it get to the bottom but no stink. I live on acreage so I just move the dishcharge hose around evenly. It quickly dries out, grass grows through it, the rain waters it and voila after one or two weeks during the summers I do this I have clean tanks, and renewed lawns.

I had an issue in a mostly flat but slightly sloping yard after 3 feet of snow melted almost overnight and heavy rain for a week. Leech field was saturated, and water backed up into septic tank. I used a submersible pump and garden hose to drain the tank into my driveway ditch. Had to do this every few days for a month or more. Highly illegal in most areas, but you do what you have too.

Ok, so no normal septic gunk tells me that the tank isn't being used. If it isn't being used, why is rain water a problem?

Forgot to ask and answer why the rain water is getting into the apparently new plastic tanks... likely around the man hole locations x2. Urethane glue must seal the pieces together. Those foam gaskets don't work. Cement to plastic must use epoxy kit. Dig all those things up and stop the leak into the tank.

Why would you siphon or pump water from the tank leaving empty such that might float if the ground around it were to become aturated. The purpose of the tank is to fill with water.
Most tank manufacurers recomend filling the tank with water ASAP.

Good method, and I'm sure it would take a LONG time with a garden hose, but that's all most people would have.

Question: How did the tanks fill with rainwater in the first place? (Edit: just read the description. Post when you find out)

Too bad you gotta live on a hill, or have a ditch nearby . Not working here where it's flat .

Isn't poo in your septic tank? Dumping that down the hill seems wrong.

I feel terrible for the kid that drank out of that garden hose one hot summer day after you did this! Plus what are using a septic tank for if all you needed was a dry well?? No grey matter my ass!
