I’m going to miss the 757 when it’s gone. As this bird was built in 2003, it should last until the mid 2030s. The -300’s biggest problem is long dwell / turnaround times, while the -200’s biggest problem is fuel consumption. If it wasn’t for that it would be a near flawless product. Probably the most solid and overpowered narrowbody model in history.
Personally I think Boeing should have started working on a new narrowbody to replace the 737 and 757 when the 757 went out of production and had the 737NG hold the line in the interim, although airlines like Southwest and Ryanair swear by the 737 only.
I just wish Boeing didn’t go the route of bean counting greed following the McDonnell Douglas merger. That bad business model could be their end and isn’t unlike other American vehicle-building corporations.
