On this episode of BIM After Dark Live we are going to look at the Residential Revit project I am working on ("The North Wing") and walk through how I approach modeling wood framed structures in Revit... There will be tips and tricks on how I approach headers, floor framing, roof framing, framing plans, and more!

Sit back, relax, and lets geek out!

Not only is it great to see the process, tips and tricks, it's also great to get insights on your local (American) construction methods, some of which can be vastly different to my region - appreciate the content, all the way from Rio.

Wow, some serious content, worth the wait though! Thank you for sharing Jeff, love to see a bit of plumbing in near future ( due to plumbing in in 3d)

Thanks for the video! I always learn from them and often refer to the array video you made. My colleague used that technique to create a nested sole plate family with bolts and drill recess included. Win!

It's my time to share! I recently tried using the trim/extend single element (or multiple) for aligning beams and wall ends. It literally changed my modeling life. It aligns the blue dot to the selected surface, so it's good! I bound that and the Aign command to easy shortcut. They are probably my most used commands...that and cltr z 🤣🤣

I''m always interested in modeling as much as I can and in that pursuit I even purchased AGACAD's wood framing software, thinking that would be an easy way to frame in REVIT, but after many consulting sessions (paid) and many hours of videos, I had to give up on it. I think there must be an easier way to do this. Even using beam systems may not be accurate to how things get framed in the field. I do like the idea of the header family driving some of the model. I'll have to check those out.

You ever use trim and extend to move the blue dot? That's what i do. I found that dragging the blue dot can often lead to snapping all caddywompus.

Love your videos. Thank you. What would you do if a consultant asked for the model and its jamb pack with families that you made? And don't want to give out?

Do you use the "Remove Beam System" in the modify bar to enable you to select individual joists?

is that header family in the residential template on your site?

edit: just got to the part where you explain it :)

your header parameters are good I like it, but you need to set up a parameter for a point load coming down on your header, I've had this happen several times before
