Economic security is national security. As economic security comes to the forefront of U.S. foreign policy, the U.S. strategy has been largely defensive. Policy measures have focused on slowing the roll of competitors instead of promoting an affirmative agenda to amplify American economic and technological strengths. As part of a year-long research project, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) published five reports that advise on a defensive and affirmative American industrial policy.
