Gelli Arts Printing Plate Review and Demo!

Howdy friends! I bit the bullet and bought th 8"x10" Gelli Arts Printing Plate. I am no stranger to gelatin printing but I have always made my own plates and I was curious as to how the commercial one holds up. Watch the video to see for yourself!

Remember to clean your tools when you are done unless you want them permanently stained. Cleaning the plate was easy, I sprayed it with water and wiped up the paint with a paper towel. No staining at all. I immediately cleaned my rubber stamps with a toothbrush but left the stencils to dry, if you do that just make sure there the paint is not clogging any of the stencil holes.

It think the Gelli Arts Plate is worth the money (especially if you get it on sale!)

I love coming across your older videos that I have never seen. I have a couple of gelli plates and don't use them near enough...they are really fun to use! Thanks for sharing.

Great video!
You should definitely play around with paint brands, consistencies, and amounts.
I always take prints from my stencils, stamps, and texture plates onto a single sheet of paper that eventually turns into a treasure of textured and colored layers.
I tend to use the minimum amount of paint needed, about 1/4th the amount shown here, and always take 3 prints but try to get up to 5 prints.
The skimpy ghosts get used for more pulls later or get used for pulling up paint through stencils.
I don't have a lot of store bought items for texturing, I made 2 texture plates using gesso and several stamps by gluing items onto cardboard.
Medicine bottle lids (fav #1), cut up oxygen tubing (fav #2), string, cardboard and foam shapes, glue and baby powder.
The texture I use more than any other is the cushiony stuff that goes between chocolates and the top of the cardboard box.
I peeled off the top and was surprised to see a cute dotted patterned, I gessoed that baby up with some spray gesso and have been loving the results.
One last tidbit, I am still testing brands and have fallen in love with the inexpensive Sargent brand, it has great coverage, blends well, and has a decent drying time.

your talking about the teacher reading to you took me back to when I was a kid in Hawaii in the 50's.  Every afternoon, we got to listen to a program on the radio that was sometimes stories and sometimes music and we got to do crafts on our own while we were listening to it.  I was big into spool knitting in those days.  LOL!  Never made anything with it, just liked doing it, which is true of a lot of crafts.

After the first or second print you can also just spritz with a fine mist of water and grab another print. This gives you a bit more mileage from your paint and a lighter more faded print.

On a note about gelli plates, I did what you suggested, re melted my homemade moldy plate and now I keep it lying flat in an open zip lock in my studio. So far so good.

Keep me coming you brighten my days with your humor and jolly spirit.

I keep an old cake pan with an inch of water and a tablespoon of Murphey's Oil Soap mixed in on my table when I'm gelli printing. Even if the paint gets a little dry on things the Murpheys gets it off pretty well. Even old paint if you let it soak a while. I have even rescued paintbrushes with a good soak in a m
Murphey's solution. I have also heard, but not yet tried a solution of water and cheap hair conditioner.

I bought my Gelli plate a few months ago and I love it...worth the price.  Cleans up beautifully and love the plastic case you can store it in.  I'm having lots of fun using it and have used the pages created for lots of card making. Love your video's, very informative.

I haven't bought one yet because I just don't have the room for more stuff.  I think when I do finally get one it will be your permanent creation that I choose.  You are brilliant!
