Schiff on CBS Face the Nation – Trump May Face “The Real Prospect of Jail Time”

On Sunday, December 9, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan to discuss the recent court filings against Michael Cohen, the implications for President Trump, the nomination of William Barr to become the next Attorney General, and whether Cohen will be called to testify.

Schiff said: “There's a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time. We have been discussing the issue of pardons that the president may offer to people or dangle in front of people. The bigger pardon question may come down the road as the next president has to determine whether to pardon Donald Trump… The idea that while people are out walking precincts and doing what they should do in campaigns, the rich and powerful seem to live by a different set of rules. So this was the argument for putting Michael Cohen in jail on these campaign violations. That argument I think was equally made with respect to Individual-1, the president of the United States.”

As I understand it, we call our chief of state "president" because it was a modest designation, one that didn't carry connotations of royalty. But over the years the title has, of course, acquired imperial overtones.

If Trump used his OWN money to pay the woman, that had nothing to do with campaign financing. Campaign financing is about OTHER people contributing to Trump's CAMPAIGN. It's not about $ coming from Trump's own pocket or his attorney's pocket, and it's not about $ non-related to his campaign. Just because it happened at the same time when there was a campaign doesn't mean it was related to the campaign. Also, if Trump had withdrawn 1 million dollars from his own account and sent it back, it had nothing to do with the campaign. Those people keep saying it's campaign related but none of them has yet to provide ANY explanation as to why it was according to law. What they do is they always quote each other and use each other as reference saying that it's campaign related. And we all know it's not, this is totally politically motivated and American people are not as dumb as they think.
