Love the spectral masking tips for added clarity. Not many people talk about that. 200-400hz will mask 3-5khz

Your videos are really the best on youtube, very precise, sober and also explained in detail without unnecessary fuss, really that you share this knowledge for free is a blessing. the world needs more people like you.

Great stuff as usual. The LUFS comparison is a useful sanity check but I don’t find the suggested bussing practical. The vocals and bgvs need to be balanced to each other so adjusting the lead vocals independently messes that up. I ended up trying this by volume automating an all vocals bus by song section and was impressed by how well the measurement aligned with what sounded good to me. I guess the bussing could be used just for measurement; I just muted and soloed the lead vocals and measured on the master bus so I didn’t have to route the sends some of which were used by both groups.

For me the best loudness is when you can hear and under stand every single word in the vocal .

I think I have seen many videos on YouTube discussing mixing audio of all description. I think these tips may be useful for people as points to consider in their process.
What I haven’t seen much of on YouTube is how you might spend a reasonable amount of time at the source of the audio before the actual recording takes place so that processing in a mix might be kept to a minimum. Maybe the algorithm isn’t suggesting those videos for me.

5:14 Dear Sage, is it Inflator > Comp, or Comp > Inflator? (don`t say trust your ears, what do you recomend?😃)

Appreciate the video, whenever I try to match LUFS of vocals to an instrumental the vocals sound too loud

But I probably just need to acclimate to professional standards or am discovering that my personal taste is a vocal down just a bit

Thank you for the video

I have a question for you or the community!
Tip 1: What if the Instruments track is very dynamic and the range changes significantly? following your tip would result in the vocals having around 15 dB of change throughout the whole instrumental. How can this be fixed or how to find the optimal level?

love this one just for the reverb ducking trick! do you think this is better for intelligibility than increasing the predelay a bit which I’ve found can help a bit with the initial transient’s audibility as well?

Could you crate a sidechain to dynamic EQ band around 300Hz on instruments track/bus that is triggered by vocal track to achieve vocal clarity?

To be accurate to the real world of professional mixing, step 1 worth nothing.
Even you'll set the vocals at the same LUFS as the instruments, the band or/and the producer would decide how loud the vocals would be compared to the mix.
So, you better skip it and wait for the moment when the decision would be made.

The membership seems interesting but not everyone wants their songs mastered. I just want mixing and mastering feedback
