Fun fact: Vilakazi Street in South Africa is the only street in the world to house two Nobel peace prize winners; Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu

All the controversies surrounding some of the people who won the Peace prize makes me think of this quote.
Anyone who speaks in favour of peace without stating precisely the conditions of this peace must at once be suspect of speaking only about that kind of peace in which he and his group thrives best.

In Norway there's a common belief/rumour that says Alfred Nobel was accidentally presumed dead before his actual death, when they misprinted it in his local newspaper. Alfred discovered he wasn't very popular among the people when he saw all the bad things they wrote about him after "his passing", saying he was a terrible person for benifiting war with his invention of dynamite. Since he did not want to be remembered only for war, he decided to create the peace prize and leave something good behind in the world... at least that's what my seventh-grade teacher told me :P

Every time that I see a TED-Ed upload on a specific topic I secretly hope that for some random reason that very topic comes up among friends or family so that I can look educated. I know, it's lame. =(

The animations and sound design of TED-Ed videos are just wow.
And I also love the voice of this narrator.

my grandmother’s grandfather was a nobel peace prize laureate. he put his earnings into a bank for until all his children had died. then it was to be used as a scholarship for all his direct descendants whom studied theology at uppsala university. then it was changed so it could be awarded to his direct descendants whom studied any subject at uppsala university. that nobel prize money will now provide me a scholarship for medical school :)

The Peace Prize would gain a great deal more credibility if heads of state were automatically disqualified.

Thor:
If you believe in peace, then let us keep it.
Ultron:
I think you're confusing 'peace' with 'quiet'.

In the Philippines, instead of celebrating Maria Ressa as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, the government is trying to dismiss her accomplishments and role by saying there is "freedom of press" in the country.

There was a Vietnamese general who was awarded the Nobel prize back in the 60s, but he didn’t take it, he said: “I’m not taking the prize till Vietnam is united” or something like that :D

In my opinion, the Philippines is now doubting this award that was given to Maria Ressa.
