Brian Greene - Do Parallel Universes Exist?

Renowned physicist Brian Greene talks about the possible existence of parallel universes. It's not often that someone is able to communicate the complex theories of a parallel worlds or a multiverse for that matter in a way that's entertaining, informative, and easy to understand. Luckily, Brian Greene is just that kind of person.

Many physicists have long claimed that all of the observable universe is one, self-contained event. But there is a growing number of scientists who claim that there is a real chance of parallel universes existing, based on the current state of physics.

Brian Greene has devised classification schemes for the various theoretical types of multiverses and universes that they might comprise. Greene's classification is based on the use of mathematics to describe quantum states (or quantum branches) which are believed to exist in the multiverse.

In any universe I wouldn't understand this video. However, I loved it. Thank you

You cannot talk about physics without including cannot observe...you cannot measure ....you cannot experience anything without consciousness....keep that in mind

I would say it is impossible for parallel universes NOT to exist. This being true, there are infinite numbers of infinite universes. This means that every possible conclusion to every single event will occur. Let that sink in. It is possible, therefore, that we are omni- dimensional beings and that every choice we make puts us in a universe which that occurs. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

As a remote viewer I can tell you's all that not only is there a multiverse but that they all fit into a cosmic pouch known as Slaygons that make up a flower like pattern outside of this Dimension, its a self sustaining perpetual system. Love and luck from Ireland 🇮🇪 💚

It goes against the spirit of Occam's rasor and of observation-based science. Mathematical models can be tweaked to reflect the interactions observed and used to make testable predictions. They are still only models. Like the antikythera, the ancient Greek analog astronomical computer based on Ptolemaic epicycles, you can be fundamentally wrong and still get the right answer. We need a more parsimonius paradigm.

I found the comments more entertaining than the video. So many people claiming to know things that cannot be known. So very amusing to me

The fact you guys are unsure is hilarious this is common knowledge on my earth

If parallel Universes exist then the forces between them cannot interact, or they would either implode or explode. If the separation distance between each universe is entirely responsible for the effect, then that might also be responsible for the expansion of the universe we are in, but the probability is very low that this would have resulted in an effect as homogenous as we measure in all the directions we look. The idea of multiverses then could only reasonably work if the interactions between each of them was uniquely separated into multiple none interacting dimensions. Hate to say the Star Trek guys might be right about the universe, but in this they would most likely have to be if we are not to see the effects of dimensionally separated universes on this one. Only thing that comes to my mind is the dark matter and dark energy observations. If this was mass sitting in a dimensionally local universe, next to ours, pervading through ours, then that might lend itself to the data we are seeing in observations today. Shoot this idea down guys, please?

All possible realities exist even if they don't have the same laws of physics.
As long as those laws are possible and create some form of reality.
There may not be observers in this universes however they do exist

“There aren’t enough distinct configurations to go around “ 5:09 see I have to disagree here, just because we are limited by our capacity to understand how the universe was created doesn’t mean it can’t follow infinite probabilities of creation which could all be completely random and different from one another .

I hope there's another universe in which humanity has lived with more dignity.

Everyone has an hypothesis and doesn't make it correct/incorrect.

That was really interesting. I guess if you follow Brian Greene's argument to its logical conclusion, it's also more likely than not that we are actually Boltzmann brains. After all, given infinite configurations of particles in different regions of space, there are far more configurations containing single Boltzmann brains than there are containing whole planets populated by sentient beings resembling humans. For every real human-like being, there's probably at least ten Bolzmann Brains that are having the exact same conscious experience. So it's more likely you are one of the Bolzmann Brains than that you are a real human-like being.

This is wrong on so many levels. 1) No proof infinity exists anywhere in the universe. 2) Whenever you decide to go left instead of right, your destroying the universe where you go right from ever existing. 3) Multiverse does not imply parallel. 4) Fact: we've only encountered one form of life - ours.

If parallel universe exist does that mean we don't have free will? 🤔🤔

I’m always reminded that infinity has plenty of room, so why wouldn’t a multiverse be expected? At the same time, why would we expect another universe to resemble ours in any way?

So, what's the matter filled between two universes? Can we create a bridge?

I have no problem with parallel universe with similar earthes and life forms, but mathematically disagree with this idea that there's an exact copy of you. Simply said, the variables which have led you to become "You" at this moment are practically "infinite" - unlike the number of cards in the example in this video. I am just surprised how such highly educated physicists can easily skip the concept and mathematics of "infinity" in such videos.
You can find some really good videos on the mathematics of quantum mechanics. Many of them are beyond my comprehesion but at least I can understand they are science not some philosophical arguments.
We don't need to be always treated like kindergarten kids.
