because it cuts through the entire texture, it helps to highlight the "rit." that is going on and sharpen it, as you said. percussive sound is perfect for this.

When I clicked on this video, I really expected the example from his second Cello Concerto, but this is equally as marvelous! Great video!

Glorious moment, but the connection is clumsy due to the fact that the xylophone is horribly late (probably due to his distance far from the violins?)
