SpaceX are developing a new rocket called Starship and it may change the future of space travel. But what is Starship, why is it so important and why are SpaceX building it?

SpaceX is a very interesting company who’ve already have an impressive set of achievements behind them, but this is their most ambitious rocket yet and they have big plans for it.

This video is the first introduction to SpaceX and their new rocket, the next video will look in more details at the technologies SpaceX need to develop for Starship to suceed, and what makes SpaceX approach to development so interesting.

Hope you enjoyed the video! - Please note there are two embaressing errors in this video. 1) Starship is not SSTO, I believe that statement was from the original ITS design and is not true for Starship. 2) The payload penalty for the dry mass for the stages is completely incorrect. Upper stage mass penalty is 1kg per 1kg. Lower stage penalty is the inverse of the mass penalty I stated in the video, its between 0.1 - 0.2 kg of payload lost per kg of stage weight.

A bad miss on my part whilst researching this video, but hopefully the newer vidoes should be more accurate.

The real fun starts when a space elevator is constructed on The Moon. The Moon is rich in resources and you don't have to worry about life on it. So you can pit mine it all you want.

im 40 and always have been fan from Asimov, from Space travel etc... I hope I can see humans in Mars, maybe even be able to travel there in 40 years in a comercial flight even if I have to sell everything I have jajajaj

What I cant believe we haven't done yet, is build an orbital space platform for launching and recovering ships. Sure it would be crazy expensive and take many years to complete, but after that initial sting, the dividends would pay for itself and then some. We would no longer have to worry about payloads at all in the absence of gravity.

16.5k subs with the production value of a 1 mil subs channel! Keep up the good work!

At 100 tons per launch for only a few million dollars, this could be used to construct a massive rotating space station. Transport a small factory with solar powered robots first, then transport the materials and the robots can build the station hull. Then transport humans to furbish it and finish it off.

Some great work here. I did enjoy this. I do have one question though. I've seen 2 E vids and so far there's only been vague references to SpaceX's "costs" . Is there a vid that goes into detail about this?

"How sure can we be that SpaceX can make it work?"

Because Elon Musk is chief engineer, thats why.

Starship could be used for building space stations much cheaper yet larger than the ISS
