On these flights I'd 100% expect turbulence, and the only reason I'd start to panic is cause of all the people randomly screaming...

Fair play to the cameraman. Great footage

My dad was a Boeing engineer. He used to tell me that these airplanes were built for severe turbulence, even worse, but that little is comfort to the passengers that are scared out of their heads.

Legend has it that during this turbulence the pilots were calm and drinking coffee not worried

You almost never see that kind of visual turbulence from the window.
I don’t think they were exaggerating.

I have once experienced nearly one hour turbulence during a light storm on an ATR-72 plane flight from Hanoi to Danang 20 years ago. When we have landed safely almost every passenger was swearing that he/she would never fly again. Very memorable flight.

Just focus on that insane view! And trust your pilot 🙏

Wow that might be the most extreme turbulance i have seen on video. Good capture. The sudden drops would be scary AF

It wasn’t the Turbulence causing the screams, it was the airplane food being served.

This looks like mountain wave turbulence, which is caused by high winds blowing over mountain ranges like here. It causes winds to move like waves and when different patches of air collide, it creates unstable up and down motion. It basically straight up is like going through a choppy ocean with rough waves (except it’s in the form of air).

Mountain wave turbulence is pretty legit and kinda scary, and can cause swaying/rocking on top of dips, although I’ve never seen or experienced any this bad.

It’s caused by the mountain waves while flying over the mountains. Can send air currents from the mountains to the plane to cause it bounce and sway.

I've flown over 50 times and I'm still just as scared getting on a flight now. Yet somehow I find their screams funny!

The tilting sideways is pretty intense. Maybe there was not a real level of danger, but the scared reactions of passengers are normal.

I've been the worse turbulence and while I keep my screaming to myself its under, I'm terrified of turbulence no matter how much I know its mostly harmless. But anyone crossing the Andes should be explained beforehand to expect sever turbulence.

I have been a passenger in a 50 seater Fokker turboprop many times during winter in Iceland. Let me tell you, the landings in those birds are a spectacle :D It´s like the pilots are on a snowboard doing jumps and skids down to the tarmac hah.

"This is your captain speaking. Please do not start screaming until the 'PANIC' sign is lit. Thank you."

This one is quite scary. You can see the plane is swinging. Easy to comment when sitting comfortably and typing but it’s very scary when facing that situation. I have been to many flights where I faced heavy turbulence it makes me sick… It’s like your stomach is dropping and it resembles scary roller coaster ride experience only when the outcome is not controlled. I know aircraft is fully equipped to handle such situations but still there is always new situations coming up.
PS: I have watched so many episodes of air crash investigation 🙈
