I used to be terrified of turbulence when I was young, as a child. One flight however, on the way home to the uk, where turbulence can be horrible sometimes, the turbulence was really unpleasant and intense. The whole cabin was deathly silent. Until a bunch of guys in their 20s started treating it like a roller coaster and then the rest of the cabin joined in with the woos and laughter and fun. They distracted people from worrying, kids from crying and even the parents from freaking out as my parents who were regular fliers were also scared. I will always remember those guys. Everytime I am in a plane and there's a turbulence, I remember them and treat it like a roller coaster. Those guys were legends. I hope I meet them again in another way. They helped me be less scared of flying when I was young. They helped keep the cabin calm also.

Love the way all passengers stay calm because screaming and panicking is useless is such situations.

Wenn you hit turbulence, just imagine youre in a speedboat and driving over some bigger waves than usual. Helps me every time.

I know it's nothing to worry about 99.9% of the time, but I'm holding those armrests with all my strength 100% of the time when those turbulence hit.

Quick story, turbulence is the freak me out until I sat next to a paratrooper which told me as long as bolts aren't fallen in your lap you're okay

The worst is when you feel how fast you are going…. Feels out of control and terrifying

Former air Marshal. Flew for 6 years almost every day. Been on some horrible turbulence flights. Hate flying now and this is giving me some ptsd. Remember once sitting across from my partner who was former navy pilot and hitting extreme turbulence over the North Atlantic and he was just drinking his coffee and reading and I was death gripping the arm rest. I ask him how do you do that? He’s like what ? Read while bouncing? lol

As a paratrooper in the Army. We flew C-130’s in crazy stuff, turbulence is the last thing you need to be afraid of.

This in all honesty is not too severe. I was in a flight recently from Korea to USA and we flew out during a storm over Korea and Japan that extended far east and it was 1 hour of pure turbulence and drops, the captain said the turbulence would be “more than moderate” and he was right. Some of the large drops I felt like I was levitating over my seat for a second like on a rollercoaster drop.

It's so hard to remember the plane can take it, but we can't unless strapped in. I hate it more and more the older I get....I just pray throughout the whole thing!

Was on a flight with horrible turbulence, haven’t been on a plane since. That was 2012. I’ll drive my happy ass everywhere.

This is a landing. The progress line disappears from the inflight map on the left after touchdown.

Once you're in the air, screaming and panicking is useless. You're along for whatever happens at that point, might as well accept it.

I fly to LA once every 3 months to vist my parents and sister. And it’s almost always turbulence free when it’s not raining.

If you can’t lift your feet off the floor, just sit forward in your seat and don’t touch the seat. I’ve been a nervous flyer since 2001 and even had some severe turbulence last year making me terrified of flying but in April I tired what I mentioned above and felt completely fine and even had a little fun with the turbulence we did experience.

As others have said, this is most definitely a landing. Thank you to the educated.

I love how quiet people get and then when it's over they try to play it off like it was nobig deal.

the last flight i took went through a heavy lightening storm we got struck by a bolt of lightning. the whole plane flashed white and it felt like we were hit by a bus. i looked straight to the flight attendants (who normally look completely unphased during turbulence) they were looking very concerned and talking quickly to one another. everyone looked at everyone and we all looked concerned. when we landed i spoke w the flight attendants who said they’d never experienced that before. we were all shook up after that flight.
