I am Italian, I visited both cities in September 2019 and I spent the same time on them, for me they are 2 beautiful cities that are worth visiting, but Lisbon has a little more to offer to its visitor and therefore I am giving you the first placement .

Porto seems to be a very charming city, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!

You can tell quite a lot from someone by which city they prefer. All things being equal a person who prefers Lisbon over Porto (provided they gave each a proper visit) is not my type of person :P

Porto have a metro area of 1.7 milion people, the thing is that by 1h of train from Porto you can go to Braga(3° biggest city in Portugal), Guimarães the birth place of Portugal with an impresive castle, or Aveiro, Portugal's Veneza version.

Lisbon 2.7 milion people, is bigger and the city itself as more to offer than Porto, but the region outside Lisbon is very dead, while in the North of Portugal is much more decenteelized, with more cities and amazing nature to explore.

I've been to both and I don't regret visiting either. They're both great in terms of architecture but in my opinion Porto is more chill and more scenic. Also, the locals in Lisbon have explicitly told me to avoid certain areas of the city for safety reasons and this obviously affects the "rating". If you can only visit one, my recommendation would be Porto. If you intend to visit both, do Lisbon first.

I lived in both cities. Porto and Lisbon are lovely and beautiful. But living in Porto is a completely nightmare. During the winter is permanent rain that makes someone feel like in middle age. I don't know how people think in Porto people are more friendly than in Lisbon!? I mean portuguese people are the most introverts and conservative people in Europe by far... The other thing is that in Lisbon you have more space and nightlife choices. Porto is to small for the big amount of people

I say lisbon maybe because I’ve spent alot more time there and the weather is better. But the ciganos in lisbon are extremely annoying

Lisbon is like vacation in catalog from travel agency, nice on paper, dirty in reality. :-D I was 10 days in Portugal, Lisbon was little shock for me, I get used to after few days, but I was still much more happy when we traveled to other places, we were in Évora, Sintra, Porto and many other places and everywhere it looked better than in Lisbon. No offense. Don't get me wrong, there are nice places in Lisbon, but generaly (especially in historical center) it's very dirty, damaged, trash everywhere, cars parking on sidewalks different from what I am used to from my country. I know it's just their culture, I am only saying my feelings about that, I am not judging them. There are massive differences between parts of city and even between streets. You have nice repaired street with no trash everywhere and you walk 100m to other street and there is dead cat stucked in fense and waste dump behind that fense. :-D People were nice and kind, but they should care more about environment and their surroundings. :-D
