*Brandon as a psychologist:*

*How not to be sad? Be happy!*
*Are you depressed? Then living ain't for you.*
*Does your hand hurt? Hit the other one so you can balance the pain.*

I honestly think if Brandon saw me play he would make about hundred videos on what I’m doing wrong he intimidates me sometimes

Guitar is for those who want it. If you never had any musicians as friends or family. It's hard to understand how hard it can be. You literally are using a piece of wood to make weird sounds.

If you like it. Keep going on. Being a demotivated is part of any learning journey.

You don't know how to cook stake well. Until you do

No way this guy essentially just said if you're not feeling motivated then you should just quit

Nah, it’s normal to get demotivated consistently when learning anything for the first time.

In fact, when it’s something hard where you don’t get to effectively express yourself till a long time spent practicing and learning, who’s NOT going to demotivated

Demotivation is normal with so many things in life, but particularly with being new.

The trick is to push past it forcefully, because each time, it gets easier and easier, and you are able to do much more/better

learn songs you like is one way to be motivated.

Okay but the advice about consistency is probably the BEST guitar advice I've ever heard. Great life advice honestly. At some point there is no trick, just stop looking for the secret to being consistent and start DOING it. The aggression with which the advice is delivered is a great kick in the pants to go practice right now.

best way to fix the feeling of being "demotivated" is just having the guitar at arms lenghth away from you where you usually sit in your room

It’s absolutely normal to be demotivated sometimes at the beginning, I’ve never seen anybody be chomping at the bit to practice when they’re first learning the guitar, because it sucks and it’s frustrating. You don’t have the finger strength, calluses, and muscle memory yet to fret notes and chords correctly, so you’ll really have to focus just to barely get a clear sound out of the guitar which can be really frustrating for beginners.

One thing I'll say for the beginners that might feel a little unmotivated is this... It's important to practice the tedious "boring" stuff. But also, learn some songs you like. Start simple and work your way up. I always end practice sessions by playing songs I enjoy. It leaves me with a positive feeling like I just had fun, not that I just did homework. If I'm going to practice for an hour I'll start with a few minutes of warm-ups, then move to the things I'm working on either learning or practicing, then for maybe the last 10 minutes or so I'll just jam out to songs I know and like playing. That leaves me feeling like I just had an enjoyable time, especially when I'm practicing something I'm either finding difficult or frustrating.

Here my advice to stay motivated, and what works for me…
Record! Make music. I got board easily when just practicing guitar, so I’d play along to my shitty Casio’s drum tracks. I then threw in some cassette recorders to build a very makeshift 4 track. (4 track decks like Tascam were very expensive back in the 90’s)Now with DAWs, drum VST’s and instruments it’s very easy to stay motivated when you’re making music rather than just practicing. And, as you practice more, your songs get better, and as your songs get better, the more you’ll want to practice to make better music.
If it weren’t for DAW’s and recording in general I would have quit guitar a long time ago.

If you are demotivated just make yourself practice, 10 minutes for something you know good and would succeed to get yourself a small win and then another 10 minutes for something you need to practice, try to do this once a day or every 2 days, at some point it will become the highlight of your day:)

If guitar is not for you, you can still play it by the way. Just don't sit down and practice by blowing through scales or whatever. Tabs are nigh infinite and if you just try to learn songs instead of pursuing as a skill you'll enjoy it a lot more.

A good hammer on pull off exercise is to line up all 4 fingers on any fret dont matter and start hammering pulling off with fingers 1, 2. Then 1, 3 then 1, 4 then switch to 2, 3 2, 4, and finally 3, 4 hopefully people can understand by reading, its definitely easier to show lol.

If you keep getting demotivated then your probably have other things you want to do more. Do those things and just let guitar be that one thing you pick up on and off until you feel like you want to lock in on it.

Hear me out. If you’re constantly feeling demotivated, before you accept that it’s not for you, question if you’re using the correct hand.

Going from a right handed guitar to a left handed guitar changed my life forever. I became so much more forgiving and patient with myself ever since switching.

imo, any harmonic minor scale is super easy to improvise over!

I wanna play guitar but I work 50 hours a week with an hour commute both ways and do chores for two hours every day until I get about one hour then go to bed. That’s why I’m demotivated lol. Not that I don’t wanna play. My life literally blocks it or makes playing seem really unappealing. And my weekends usually spent with my wife or cleaning. 😂 fun times.

I have ADHD so getting into a consistent practice schedule is kind of like rocket science for me meaning that it’s almost impossible
