A question that I have been getting a lot recently is “what is Pathophysiology & How to Study for Pathophysiology?
First I think that it is important to understand what the word Pathophysiology actually means. Once you break down the the word though, I think it makes the course seem a little more doable.... more text below these links ;)
Here is the link to the audio:
Here is a link to the NCLEX Review book that I used:

Here is a link to: How to Succeed in Nursing School video:

Here is a link to the Audio:
Please give me 24 hours to produce this! Sorry for the delay... but check back my love!!

Before we do this though, I just want you guys to know that none of this os “common sense.” So don’t ever feel like you are not super intelligent for not understanding things right away. It took me long time to understand this information: but I do hope this video helps you along the way!
Also, just fyi, I’m making this video into an audio as well so you can take me along with you ;) Just look in the description below for a link! I hope you enjoy!
So breaking down the word: Pathophysiology:
Patho-: is derived from the Greek word "pathos" meaning "suffering or disease." Patho- serves as a prefix for many terms including pathogen
Physio the scientific study of function in living systems
Ology - means: the study of

One of the things that makes pathophysiology so difficult is that you must have full understanding the of normal functioning of the organ to understand how the functioning of the organ can occur when disease is present.
In order to properly care for you patient, you must have full understanding of their disease process so that you can anticipate their needs & properly care for them :)

Etology - is a word that you will see a lot and this means the cause, causes or manner of causation of a disease or condition. So what you are looking for with “Pathophysiology is” what is the cause or in other words what is the: “Pathogen”

Some pathogens can be: Virus, bacteria, fungi, environmental and also “Multi-Factorial” which means a number of different causes.
In class pathophysiology will be broken down into systems: For example: Cardiovascular Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Neurologic Disorders and so on & so forth. Since there are many different diseases with each system this class can be quite challenging.
So in this video I’m going to go over some different disease processes and show you pathophysiology in action…… with a quick review of normal functioning first.

Very helpful but I find the music to be very distracting!

I am teaching patho to nursing students this year for the first time and I want to do whatever I can to help the students be successful while ensuring they learn concepts that will help them as they move forward in the program. Any guides are appreciated. I think this is a short sweet video that lets the student know what the heck patho is.. thanks

Love watching and learning from your videos. My knowledge has been supported by what you've taught me, which is helping a lot with uni and understanding things.

Thank you so much for posting these videos.  I will be watching these throughout the nursing program.  My first day will be Sept. 29th.  I want to have many resources at my fingertips and I know that these videos will be a great help.

Loved it soooo much! Maybe do a video on how to write a good, DETAILED progress note on paper, doesn't have to be EMR & the SOAP notes.

Thanks Caroline for the great video! Do you think you can do a video on pharmacology? For example: how to study and memorize the drugs, contraindications, and etc...?

Hey Caroline, I found your channel last year when I was taking A&P 2, Microbiology, Statistics and Chemistry all in the same semester and I listened to your audio files about staying positive and motivated almost daily..and guess what? I aced through every single course! I currently transferred to a University that offers the nursing program I want to get into and Pathophysiology is one of the pre requests which I am taking this semester. It has proven to be extremely difficult for me to the point where I am always anxious and on the verge of a nervous breakdown and it is very hard for me to stay focused and not so discouraged. I just ordered the nclex book you listed hoping that would help me. I was also wondering if there are any extra tips you would be able to provide for this course. Ps the audio link doesn't work in the description box. Im sorry for the long comment, I just feel so behind compared to my classmates in this course and want to turn things around.Thank you so much in advance!! I am so grateful I found your channel!

Hi Caroline! I have purchased and read your book, How to Succeed in Nursing School, and I just have to say THANK YOU very much for taking the time to write this book, I feel so prepared for what lies ahead. I'm currently a nursing student in Omaha, NE and tomorrow I start my Nursing 220 class (Med/Surg) so I have been ordering some of the books you suggested in your book. I had a question for you on the ATI complete package you discussed in the book that is $429. Just because it is so much I wanted to make sure I ordered the right one. I believe the one you are referring to is ATI NCLEX-RN® SUCCESS PACKAGE which is $400, if you could let me know if I have the right one I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again so much for your commitment to helping other nursing students out, it is very inspiring!

Hey Caroline, great video. I really enjoyed it and it was very helpful. The visuals were really cool to watch and did help with your explaining. I tried to get your Anatomy and Physiology program but I am not able to for some reason. I would really love to have it so any advice would help. Thank you so much for all of your videos.

I love the effort you put into this video. It was very helpful and informative. I'm taking pathophysiology now and my professor puts clinical questions in more than half the exam. I'm having great difficulty when it comes to answering these types of questions. My next test is this Monday and I'm not sure how to prepare. please give me your advice and tips. Thank you so much
