The more inland you go from Oxnard the hotter it gets. Onces you start going up the hills, it gets warmer. Oxnard tends to be cooler because its flat, whereas the other nearby towns have hills.

The area when explorers came here and brought the Spanish they called the area Bona Fortuna which meant Good Fortune because of the plentiful sea, the bountiful land, and the temperate climate. Its how San Buena Ventura came to be.

Live in Ox but appreciate both- to me they are basically one big city. Collection, Main Street, C- Street, Silver strand, CI Harbor, Ventura Harbor, great food everywhere. It’s pretty great!

How about Ventura vs Camarillo? Or Camarillo vs Thousand Oaks

I gre up in Nyland Acres, across the strawberry fields from El Rio.
When she said "downtown Oxnard", all I could think was, 'oxnard has a downtown, now?' 😅😅
If youre in the area of Ventura or Oxnard, visit the La Janelle (the jedi built out if her wrecked hull.) But beware the black oil globs on the beach. Theyre a pain the try to clean up after....

I chose Oxnard 2 weeks ago because it is closer to work than Ventura. If I was retired or worked from home and had to choose between the two, I might have picked Ventura, but after 2 weeks of exploring, I kind of feel like Camarillo was the best choice, the only con there would be a little further drive to the beach.

One thing that is enraging here (Oxnard) are the people with loud cars who like to make as much noise as possible. I say this as someone with a supercharged V8 650 hp engine in my truck that gets 10 miles a gallon, so don't take me as some Prius driver who hates muscle cars. I love the power of the V8 but I'm not an asshole, so I have a quiet exhaust. There is a time and place to let your engine roar and it's not in residential areas. I honestly feel like 1/5th of the city owns a Charger/Challenger with the loudest exhaust allowed by law. There is also some asshole with a bicycle and a boom box mounted on it, he will ride around blasting music max volume. Saturday it was at 5:45 am... fun... and since he is on a bike, by the time I could confront him if I wanted to, he is gone, but the damage is done, I'm awake. There is no way to prevent this unless you live in a gated community. Honestly, if I ever get the chance I might "accidently" run him over. Yesterday, I watched police drag a screaming girl away, I don't know why but they were holding her down and she was screaming at the top of her lungs, probably some druggie. I was born in New York City, so I am used to the bums and stuff but the noise is just next level.

Now the nice things I can say are: amazing weather, and lots of good places to eat. I had to move here for my job, this wasn't my top choice, but I try to just enjoy the weather and ignore the rest, I think I am going to have to invest in a comfortable pair of earplugs or buy a sensory deprivation chamber to sleep in though. The cost of living is horrible, as mentioned. As an example, Five Guys where I lived before was $18, here its $25 for the exact same meal. Gas, food, rent, insurance is all more expensive, my electric bill is the only area where I will save money.

Last FYI to anyone, if you are thinking of living in Oxnard/Ventura/Camarillo, working in LA and doing the commute, good luck. I drove through LA to get here (I drove pretty much 1/2 way across the USA) and there was traffic on the road at 10pm on a Monday night... no accident, just traffic because the number of cars. It was moving, but not as fast as I'd like it to. If it's like that at 10pm, I don't want to see rush hour.

Its a totally safe place we have our own app for crime. Lol
And you cant find graffiti??? Are you just driving around in a circle inside a gated community?
There are two major gangs here El Rio and Colonia and they are generally migrant working families that moved here from two separate parts of Mexico to work.
Honestly that is the majority of the population of our entire county (and most are undocumented) And guess what? They do not get along, Im not being racist I grew up going to El Rio, RDV, and RM (I had almost zero white friends) In our high schools we were not allowed to wear any sports gear with any logo except for the schools.
Because the gangs would identify themselves by wearing the cowboys or raiders to show what gang they were in.
Also, fun fact you know what's bigger than the beaches here in Oxnard? Its what's known here as the "Safety Zone" look it up.
Its over 6.5 miles of designated gang zones where laws are different for the members living in those areas. Different curfews, what they can wear, even who some people are allowed to associate with.
Not to mention LA has been dropping off homeless people here by the van loads and our river bed by the beach catches fire multiple times a year due to the enormous homeless encampments they have been trying to remove for decades.
Oxnard has also been trying to change its name to Gold Coast for as long as I can remember in an attempt to clear its name.
With that being said come on down step in the tar and scrub it with dawn... (vegetable oil works best) just watch out for the needles in the sand. (also not kidding, i find them regularly in the sand on my morning walks)

I'm disappointed that you guys dicided to label these groups of kids that love to ride bicycles "GANGS". As if they were an organized group of criminals. The appropriate name would have been bicycle crews. There are a lot of great kids that just love to ride and socialize with friends. And of couse like in every group there are going to be some that don't know how to act. Please stop criminalizing our young .
