How to Force a Copy: Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms

In this video I show two different ways to force recipients to make a copy of your Google file when you share it with them. I prefer to use the first method with my students because it doesn't require any additional steps for the recipient to access their copy. The second method just requires a little more work on the end of the recipient. The second method is also important to know if someone shares just a viewable link with you and you want to make a copy of it for yourself.

I use a Google Slides presentation as an example in this video but the process is the same when using Docs, Slides, Sheets, or Forms.

Okay, I got you. My boss told me to do this and I had never heard of this before. I ended going the second route you mentioned, but I like the first way better because you don't risk them forgetting and editing your original. Your the best! By the way this is my burner account, jaaaa jk. I just use it to listen to music. I have two other accounts I use to promote my personal interest like baseball and cars. jaaa, thanks again.

This method works fine in any browser but Chrome. If the modified URL is pasted into Chrome then the user is being prompted to Login to Google. Does anybody know a way around this?

Thank you for this! Great tutorial with clear, concise steps. 1st tutorial that wasn't created for morons by person addressing preschoolers. Luv it!
