Are you able to filter horizontally in Excel? The answer to this question is: not really! However, there are some workarounds, none of which require a VBA macro.

1) Use custom views

Great video! I'd be happy with just the first method, but you've presented 3! Thank you!
Also one can even instead of typing the departments in the cell, especially when the departments data is fixed, use drop down list using data validation.

Nice workaround and slightly less faff than creating a pivot table and slicers.
