Darious, in my last film, I wrote a sci fi piece the was going nowhere until I attached a theme to it. So it is incredibly valuable to have that clear. I think theme is really important for the filmmaker themselves, as it provides a purpose for the film. I'm excited to make a film that shares a message (hopefully layered - political/social commentary, and then underneath that a simple, message about the human condition). I feel like it's important for motivation (change for good instead of 'success') as well as helping to get rid ideas that don't support the theme/s. a destination to set your sights on, keeping the project grounded. great video!

I teach literature at the college level and this video is perfect for teaching about theme. I especially like that he acknowledges that finding the theme is personal and subjective and that each reader and viewer brings his or her own ideas about theme into the reading and viewing.
