I think we connect with vulnerability. Feeling vulnerable may contain some fear as we feel unprotected. Your channel has grown so much and you may have more than 100 videos out but you show up vulnerable and we connect with that. Don't think you'll have to worry about losing that feeling of "fear" anytime soon :)

My wife and I started watching from Christmas smash or pass and haven't stopped. Not all of your stuff is for us, but your podcast got added to her regular rotation and your sister's book is on the end table we put next to the guest chair for my wife's office.

You're weird. You're goofy. You're way more self judgmental than you are of others, at least out loud. You can say something changes, and I think that's true. I think if this video felt like Smash or Pass, I wouldn't have watched it.

Change is going to happen. You're gonna grow and evolve and adapt because you're alive and you think. We have to find ways to guide the change closer to our truest selves, which makes it less like a change and more like a refinement. It's all polish.

The trick is making sure you don't polish the surface so much it's just a perfect reflection of what's around it. It has to maintain its character and material qualities. I think you've done that wonderfully.

(Also and this is super dumb but I constantly forget how relatively close you actually are to us geographically. I used to work on E st NW, we live in MD. Your success feels like a hometown hero kinda thing for us. There's a lot of parasocial pride, which I don't think is a bad thing. It's not like we think we have anything to do with it. It's just like, oh she's a beltway corridor YouTuber. Nice. One of ours made it. Woo. Etc.)

I had that “HEY GUYS!!” energy on my channel for nearly a decade because it was the vogue so it’s what kept people’s attention. Past couple years I started noticing people being more lowkey/natural and I was like oh…. Embarrassing. So now I try to not put on that Extra Energy but every time I worry that a subscriber is going to watch and think “wow, she hates this now” purely based on the contrast in energy.
