It is one of the most interest questions in all of science and Cosmology...Are we alone?

Watch Prof. Brian Cox discussing on why we could be the only civilization in the universe. There are trillion of Galaxies in the universe but when we particularly think about Milky Way galaxy then it alone have more about 300 million planets that might support life as we know it. By seeing number of these exoplanets it can be argued that we are likely not unique in the galaxy. However Prof. Brian Cox thinks that there must be intelligent civilizations out there but as we haven't found them we are not sure. Just imagine what would happen if an imagine intelligent civilizations are prevalent throughout the lifespan of the galaxy. There had to be one of the first civilization in our universe only asking: Are we alone really? Only in their case the answer would be, yes. But maybe, that civilization is literally us.

Brian talks peacefully about things that we want to talk about, but we are too afraid. There is a peaceful side to loneliness, and there is a fearful side of having company.

I wish my cat would understand all this. This is so deep and would have been great to hear what she felt about that.

Professor Cox is just amazing, the way he makes sense and his simple words that make us understand complicated concepts 😮!!

We are the "eye" of the universe to which it observes itself.

The distance between stars is so vast, it's like being alone in the universe.

What a beautiful way to explain that, we need better people in charge with that mentality

Well this is even more sad given we almost fail to maintain our own home planet

This reminds me of a qoute I read in an astronomy magazine a long time ago. "How can there be something, when there could be nothing." It has stuck with me for years. Still blows my mind to this day. I will never forget it.

I absolutely agree when you consider all the factors it takes in order for our daily existence to happen consistently for thousands of years or millennium or however, it’s been since life itself has been squiggling around on this planet. It’s pretty amazing that we exist. I call us, living impossibilities

Still has me pondering..., "why are we so fixated on self-destruction?" Even on a personal level with the additions, obesity, poor hygiene and over all self worthlessness. We've become crude, rude and lacking any "self" control or restraint over how we approach and speak to each other, and live. As if it comes down to that "self" yet again and the only concern is "ME, MYSELF AND I". When will this insanity “I”seriously hope we finally evolve beyond this crucial point of "our" existence and finally realize "we aren't alone" even on this planet.

I like it that people actually think about things like this.

Reminds me of the "pilgrim" theory that we are the first intelligent life to exist in the cosmos. Hopefully that's not the case, because than that means it's took 13.8 billion years for a singular civilization to fork. Most think this is unlikely, if you consider the vastness of existence, but we don't actually know. Even scarier is the "late" theory, that we're "late" for everything. That all the "meaningful" and "intelligent" events, on a cosmic scale, already happened, and we're just unlucky enough to evolve as everything is fizzling out. We "missed the bus", as some could say. Most also don't believe this, but again, we don't know really.
