My stepmum got her nose pierced at Claire’s as she really liked my nose piercing (done with a needle at a tattoo shop). She also changed it to a ring after something like 2 weeks. She was subsequently surprised that hers got infected and mine did not. These places are awful and prey on those who don’t know any better.

Calling them “Piercing Specialists” with 10 minutes of training on how to use a piercing gun is like calling myself an “Aerospace Engineer” once I learnt the planets in the solar system 😂

The best analogy I've heard comparing piercing guns vs. needles is: When you hammer a nail into wood, it doesn't remove the wood, it pushes it aside. When you use a drill it removes the wood. It's the same with the gun vs. needle. Yes, I did get my ears pierced at Claire's but I was 11 and my mom took me. lol. I know better now.

It's the bit where they say all the equipment is sterilised when we know they cannot autoclave the gun and they reuse it every time so it is absolutely not sterilised!

I had a few piercings done with guns before I knew better, and luckily, they turned out fine but I would never get another one done with a gun. You're doing great educating people!

My ears were pierced with a gun when I was like 6… and I had infections and problems for 2 years, plus allergic reactions and all. I’ve always wanted more piercings, but after that experience, which took a total of like 5 years to be completely normal… UGH. The earrings aren’t exactly straight either. My friend was a manager at Claire’s and they just watched one ten minute video and then started doing the ears right away. It was exactly like you said with re used gloves and all. It was scary.

Yes in the USA youre usually just in the front window next to the door of the store. Many times Claire’s only has one manager in the store alone, so they’re doing the piercings right next to the sensormatic and helping customers between doing your piercings, it’s just a bar stool and a set of drawers. You might have to move so customers can see the products behind you. And that’s every USA store I’ve seen, in dozens of states. Plus the one in Peterborough UK lol 😂

I remember one of your DM reaction videos a while ago showed a video of side by side x-rays that showed piercing with a needle and piercing with a gun in slow motion. I was horrified at how the gun just shredded the earlobe while it shoved the earring through. I think that would have been a great clip to insert in this video just to visually illustrate how bad "piercing instruments" are.

My best friend has worked at Claire’s for a few years (she handed in her notice yesterday) and the practices that go on inside her store are borderline criminal. First of all, she was forced to do piercings after only having a quick “tutorial” from her manager. Her manager essentially threw her in the deep end with no proper or professional training. Second of all, half of the employees they have piercing people are UNDERAGED. She started working at Claire’s when she was 15-16 and she’s only just turned 18 this late February, however she’s been doing piercings since she was 16-17. Oh! And then on top of that, she was forced to pierce very very young babies ears, despite telling her manager numerous times that she was uncomfortable with the practice. She told me a story about how her manager would often hold the baby down with the parents as she pierced their ears. I just think it’s terrifying that such a big corporation could get away with such dangerous and ignorant practices for so so long.

I remember being in Claire's once when the piercing thing was new and this woman and what seemed like her sister/friend were forcing their little girl to get her ears pierced. She was wailing crying beforehand and after. Imagine forcing a child to get piercings!! Insane!!

I had my cartilage done at Claire’s about 20 years ago with a gun, it took well over a year to heal. So much pain and problems. I’ve had many other piercings since done professionally with no problems. Be careful peeps!

As someone who was sadly taken to Claire’s when she was younger for a piercing. I can safely say NEVER go there! The gun got stuck in my ear and poured with blood, I had a butterfly back and exactly like you said my ear got so infected and so swollen, my dad had to rip my earring from my ear. I had to go to hospital and now as a near 36 year old woman, I still have scarring on my ears. I now have to wear clip on earrings, like a child because I have too much scar tissue. I went in on Halloween looking at stuff for my costume and the lady asked if I wanted a piercing! I explained no and explained what had happened previously. She actually grabbed my ears with her hands and said” we can happily redo those for you!”😱I’ve never ran out of somewhere quick enough. DO NOT get pierced at Claire’s!!

When I worked at Claire's, I explained to SO many people why needles are BETTER than a piercing gun, especially on cartilage, then sent them to a local piercer after they outlawed cart piercing with a gun here in Ohio. As far as the sterilization, I can only speak for the store I worked for...we used new gloves with every customer and threw them away after, we wiped everything down before and after every customer and did all we could to make it as safe as possible. I still hated doing those..ugh! For training, we did actually practice on a fake ear and had to watch a video (lame, I know) but we did get _some_ training. I never did consider myself a piercer. I also told people to wait at least six weeks before changing their earrings and that if they got irritated or thought they were getting an infection to NOT take the jewelry out and go to a doctor or urgent care.
