Great vid and a nice nod to the cheaper end of the xc spectrum!

Grew up riding XC in the 90s. Bike was rubbish but had so much fun. Owned a few nicer bikes since, but can’t beat the excitement and adventure of riding rough, rock strewn “trails” (on bikes without suspension), with your mates and getting home sometime around sunset.

Been riding XC since early 80's and now at 61yrs old I'm still riding between 20-40mi
several times or more a week.

I purchased my 1st down country bike. With 130mm travel it's everything I need for smashing Utah. It's my favorite bike. I'm selling two of my trail bikes.

Love my 2009 Trek 8500

Yes its a 26er and the geometry is a bit dated but its just over 10kg and pretty fast!

Just about anything used is fine as long as it was taken care of😁

The amount of money these bikes cost is madness, I'll stick with my 900 quid Hardtail love it

Save up to 1k and you get some decent bikes. Modern bike geometry is important. If you save a bit more. I have seen a full sus for 1.7k with full six. Anyways I love hardtails because super efficient and easy to maintain.

Yes it matters. I got smoked all year long being on a 10 year old trail bike to new xc bikes. Definitely matters

90% of people essentially ride cross country, so that means about 60% of people are overbiked

I had that very same Scott Scale 50 and absolutely loved it. Bought it in around 2005 and only sold it in 2021 after I cracked the head tube. (I re-soldered it first)

Just get a 29er that has been proven and call it good. My 2011 Epic FSR is only a few seconds slower on my local trail segments than my 2022 DC race bike. It’s more about the rider than anything else. There is a line though. Showing up with a 1992 Stumpjumper M2, while once awesome, will be a considerable disadvantage to your competitors.

MOST ALL bikes are NOT worth their cost. Cost has exceeded VALUE long ago. (bike shop tech)

Perfect video. My 2013 Scott Scale 960 has the stones to get it done even when knackered. Only oaid $1300(US) for it new 10 years ago. Value.

I used mine as my adventure bike. It’s got a vro headsets so the handle bars arent as low as normal xc bikes.

I live in South Georgia USA. It’s mostly flat here so XC is life.
