My DIY ebike cost £1450, including the bike.

Does 45mph for 75 miles and when parts break it's a simple Amazon search for a cheap repair.

I wouldn't have a 10, 000 ebike, for these very reasons.

Then there's me who rides carelessly even with a full XTR drivetrain and brakes plus carbon fiber rim wheels lol

Wow… I have never worried about damaging my full suspension MTB… however YES, I have bent the rear axle/hub and had to replace it… 🤷🏻‍♂️

I got an epic 8 pro on the way and honestly I don’t think it’s about having the best bike as I love my older AL canyon Spectral. It weighs 38 lbs with pedals and the bike I have coming is 23 lbs 12 oz

Im kinda opposite I race DH and bought an ~10 year old alloy ex-race bike that got built by a guy who used to race for the Banshee factory team and I'm definitely more reluctant to leave that bike unattended but I'm also comfortable full-sending cuz I know the bike won't just self destruct on me

You normally are not gonna notice the difference between a 4k and a 8k bike, unless you push it to its absolute limit, which you probably aren't going to everyday, so in my opinion buy the bike you're going to enjoy.

My philosophy:
Own a high dollar bike for RACING.
Own a medium dollar hardtail for trail.
Own a spare parts build for being social.

Real life scenarios for me. I drive a rockhopper expert and would not park it outside unattended.

I buy my bikes to ride them, motorcycles and bicycles. One day illl be dead and nothing will have mattered anyway. Use your stuff and have maximum fun doing it. Breaking things and fixing things is what makes me tick. So bring it on.

I have yet to see a 10k mtb do anything my gt aggressor pro cannot I mean raw basics.... Yes, a 10k mtb may do a few things better, but my gt will do it all and is insanely cheap to fix and service.

Or you could have Both so you can have one to have fun with friends and one to race

You can get a bike a little older for a lot cheaper and have backups.

If you are babying your bike on the downhills for fear of taking damage...you should reconsider your hobbies, and grow a pair while you're at it.

It’s up to everyone about the speed, but going slower gives you more time to enjoy the things around.

The guy with the cheap bike should be more careful on a downhill cuz the worse bike is harder to ride

Don’t get the last bit, I bought an expensive bike so that I COULD blast downhill without worry
