It's an age old debate between comics fans: Marvel vs. DC! Maybe it's just me, but I feel like Marvel superheroes tend to feel more like street level heroes, while DC superheroes are portrayed as gods. While that's just all opinion, what if there was objective evidence that proved that the heroes in the DC universe were stronger than those in the Marvel universe?

What do you think? Are DC comic book characters stronger than Marvel comic book characters? Let's talk about it in the comments below!

Headcanon is a show wherein we brainstorm ideas and theories about our favorite comic book characters, stories, and worlds! With no prior research or formal script, Headcanon presents topics surrounding comics in a fun and relaxed fashion.

DC: characters you look up to
Marvel: characters you relate to.
easy.

I personally much prefer DC to Marvel. I agree that Marvel's characters seem less powerful because they seem more human and relatable. One of the biggest reasons why I like DC rather than Marvel is because DC has the sort of nostalgic aura to it with the unrealistic heroes and the far out crazy characters. Marvel seems to be more progressive with more modern and more philosophical takes on things. DC to me seems more conservative yet more appealing and fun.

i think it was Max Landis i heard say it perfectly: DC is about Gods living among the human world, Marvel is about people given god like powers. i think thats a spot on way to say it

That leads me to a question I had for a while. If everything on earth is light to Superman, how did he get muscular?

Yes, DC heroes feel like gods. When you see them standing in a line, you can't help but think that you're looking at the modern version of the Greek Pantheon. DC comics emphasizes the physical power of their characters.

No, they're not necessarily more powerful. For every Superman there's a Thor, for every Dr. Fate there's a Dr. Strange, for every Batman there's an Iron Man, for every Flash there's a Silver Surfer. Marvel has its share of OP heroes, but it tends to keep them on the sidelines, and focus on the streetlevelers.

DC: gods among men.
Marvel: mutants, mutates, aliens, and inter-dimensional beings.

Obviously there are notable exceptions, like Hulk who is the strongest there is. But I generally see DC heroes as stronger for some reason. Am I alone in this?

DC: Gods playing at being men
Marvel: Men playing at being Gods

The core DC heroes represent what humanity should strive towards, while the core Marvel heroes are those of humanity striving to be just that.

Dc Fan: DC is way better.
Marvel Fan: No way Marvel is way better. We have a hulk.
DC Fan: We have Superman. Fight me.
Random Person: I hate comics. Both Marvel and DC are dumb.
DC and Marvel fan: Wait. What?!?!?
DC fan: do you realize they have a hulk?!?!
Marvel fan: Yeah and they have Superman!
Marvel and DC: Do you want to fight us?

I want to be clear about something that seems to be mistaken a lot in the comments. The question—as the title reflects—is whether or not DC characters are _STRONGER_ than Marvel's, not _more powerful_. I think there's a distinction there. I'm not looking at overall power levels of characters. DC heroes have always struck me as physically stronger than Marvel's, but not necessarily more powerful. That's what I'm getting at. Hope that makes sense.

Sure DC superheroes may be stronger than Marvels superheroes.

But can they see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

A JLA vs Avenger fight - DC has every advantage. Is far more powerful. It's pretty hard to stand up to Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, MARTIAN MANHUNTER, Batman and Cyborg. Wonder Woman is the goddess of War, Flash is speed incarnate, Green Lantern wields the most powerful weapon in the Universe, Aquaman can control all life in the sea as well as the sea itself, Martian Manhunter is an Xavier level telepath, shape shifter and can become transparent and he has strength on par with Superman. Batman is a brilliant tactician and Cyborg is a tech god.

Well, even look at DC's most famous "normal" hero Batman: One of the biggest debates that continues even today is "who wins between Superman vs. Batman?" Could you see that debate going on between one of Marvel's normal heroes and their biggest gun? It gives me the idea that even DC's powerless heroes are exaggerated beyond human capabilities.
