Welcome everyone I hope you are all well. Today we will be following on the series of looking at regional differences in the Pokemon main series games. This time its the turn of the Generation 5 titles!
Starting like always the most obvious change, the logo from the eastern and western versions of the games. English, Japanese, Korean.
Following on from this, to the title screens. Here you can see the English and Japanese title screens. Apart from the logo you will notice that the press start text has changed. In every generation so far, the Japanese titles say Push Start Button while the English ones say Press Start. This has always been an odd change to me.
These changes are also present in the sequels, Black and White 2. Again, the logos are different - English, Japanese, Korean and the title screen - English, Japanese has the odd wording change for pressing start.
In the Japanese version of Black and White, it is possible to Surf onto a dragon tail in Opelucid Gym by opening the menu and selecting Surf, trapping the player. If the game is saved in this spot, the player will be trapped and they will be forced to start a new game. The glitch was fixed in the English versions, which disallow Surfing onto the tail by any means.
In the Japanese version of the games, a Pokémon with the Ability Poison Touch has a 20% chance of poisoning its opponent. This was changed in every other release to be a 30% chance.
In Japan the move Imprison displays a large red X with the Japanese character "封" (pronouced Fuoo) short for 封印 (Pronoucned Hooeen) fuuin, the Japanese name of the move. For international versions, this was replaced with a large red stamp graphic.
The game had multiple skins for the C-Gear. Some of these were exclusive to different regions, with just 2012 Worlds C-Gear being the only one not available in Japan.
The Japanese games also had a bug with Victini. Victini cannot be shiny, If the player talks to the event Victini and the game generates a shiny personality value for Victini, then the battle won't start. This was fixed for the international releases.
Now lets look at Black and White 2. There is a bug that only features in the Japanese releases of the games. Towards the end of the game, you follow a Zoroark through victory road to Ns castle. If you leave the cave without following Zoroark, it will spawn in its original spot, but wont move. Meaning you cant gain access to the castle. This was fixed for international releases.
Black and White 2 also had some region exclusive C-Gear skins! All were exclusive to Japan.
Finally Japan also had some tournaments in the Pokemon world Tournaments that were exclusive.
The 2012 Japan Representative Challenge - In which you faced the champion of each division in Japan.
Gathered! Gym Leader! - Jasmine, Volkner, Norman, and Misty
Challenge the Champion Lance! - Morty, Whitney, Erika, and Lance
The Legendary Rotation Battle! - Two trainers with legendary Pokemon
The Battle of Legendary Pokemon! - Gym leaders with 1 legendary in their team.
You Can Challenge the Unova League Too! - The people from the Unova League in the anime.
